Some great insights here on the new ILO Convention on Platform Work. This in particular stuck with me: "Ultimately, it will come down to the mobilising capacity of platform workers to turn what is in this Convention into tangible regulatory changes at national level."

The @ilo made history last week when it agreed a labour standard on platform work for the first time.
How was it formed & what will its consequences be around the world?

Remarkable what is happening in Italy. A court put Glovo into receivership for labour abuses & has forced the company to raise the pay of its riders.
It puts govts to shame that a Milan court can achieve this in months, while they sit on their hands.

The ILO has established a labour standard for platform workers for the first time. I spoke to Marini Thorne, who was in Geneva for the conference, to discuss the debates & dividing lines which formed Convention 193, & what impact it will have on the ground.https://t.co/1SHRisyqxT

IT'S OFFICIAL 🥳 After years of worker organizing and advocacy, the @ilo has just adopted Convention 193 on Decent Work in the Platform Economy. Congratulations to all of our trade union partners and global labor allies who have traveled this long road to a win! #ILC2026
🧵1/3
🔵 #ILC2026 This is a victory for all platform workers, including #DomesticWorkers who rely on apps and digital platforms to find work. It is a step forward in the fight to be recognized as workers and to ensure dignity and respect prevail over insecurity and exploitation.

The rules of the game have changed 🚨
This is a victory won by platform workers – the delivery riders, ride-hail drivers and app-based transport workers who organised, testified and refused to accept that an app could strip them of their rights. (1/2)

Uber and Prosus are battling for control of Delivery Hero. Both companies want to run roughshod over EU anti-monopoly rules, but monopolisation is not in the interests of workers or customers.

Seems significant that Uber's CEO has admitted that when you have robo-taxis in a city, it leads to less Uber drivers. Before, Uber had been arguing that robo-taxis led to a multiplier effect & was good for drivers. Munich to launch Uber robo-taxis soon.

It's farcical that the EU required Prosus (owner of Just Eat) to sell down its 27% stake in Delivery Hero for anti-trust reasons, only for Uber to then buy a 37% stake in Delivery Hero.
Neither Dutch nor American monopolisation is good for workers.
