Wow

What a swing and a miss. We already know everything about the universe and the game because they've given us so much info about it and now we don't even get a full CC for our characters?

My problem with Exodus is that it's being marketed as an RPG (a spiritual successor to Mass Effect) but from everything they've shown, the role-playing is incredibly shallow.

Established protagonists aren't the issue. Mass Effect, The Witcher 3, and Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 all proved you can have a fixed protagonist and still deliver fantastic role-playing. Shepard, Geralt, and Henry were written so well that you didn't want to be anyone else, and their dialogue systems gave you enough freedom that they still felt like your version of the character.

Exodus, on the other hand, looks like it boils everything down to a basic Paragon/Renegade choice. That worked in Mass Effect because it was part of a much deeper system: you invested points into those paths, unlocked unique dialogue, and could still ignore them entirely if you wanted. It wasn't just "red" or "blue."

Now we're also learning character customization is extremely limited. So if the role-playing is minimal and you can't meaningfully shape your protagonist, what exactly makes this an RPG?

It feels like they wanted to make a linear single-player action game, but "Mass Effect-like RPG" is a much easier sell.

In my opinion, this is the first one that doesn't look like it's been set on rails and has organic interaction with the environments. Looking forwards to seeing some extended stuff over the summer.
