5 serious issues with ERC 8004 that need to be addressed:

1. No unified identity across multiple chains:

ERC-8004 style registries are mostly chain-local. An agent on Base, BNB, Ethereum, or Solana ends up with separate identities and separate reputation.

2. Agents can choose friendly validators:

While registering an agent specifies its validatorAddress, ERC-8004 itself does not prove validator independence or prevent agent–validator collusion.

3. Agents are scored but their validators aren't:

ERC-8004 records validation, but validator selection, staking, incentives, slashing, and economic security are left to external protocols.

4. Prone to Sybil attacks:

An operator can create many wallets and manufacture positive feedback; a 2026 study found coordinated Sybil behaviour among 59–91% of reviewers across Ethereum, BSC, and Base.

5. Reputation is often not tied to a real transaction

Feedback can be submitted without cryptographic proof that the reviewer actually paid, used, or received work from the agent.

Between Feb - Apr 2026:

- Across a sample of 10,000 registered agents, only 980 received any feedback scores.
- Out of which only a handful of agents have more than one feedback client.

Does that mean that the demand for agentic reputation is declining?
Actually, it's quite the opposite:

1. Institutions are adopting x402.

2. ERC-8004 is constantly evolving to focus on deeper MCP support and richer onchain reputation.

3. Chains and wallets are becoming more AI-native:
