Greenland Integration: The world's largest island joins as a full strategic partner, with provisions for enhanced U.S. and allied basing rights, Arctic resource cooperation, and collective defense against non-hemispheric incursions.
Article 5 Equivalent: An attack on any member state or Greenland will be considered an attack on all, triggering a unified hemispheric response – but strictly within the Americas.
No European Role: Organizers emphasized that OASAG is "hemisphere-first," ending what they called "one-way subsidies" to NATO's European flank amid ongoing disputes over burden-sharing and Arctic priorities.
The announcement comes amid heightened U.S.-Europe friction over Greenland's future, including recent tariff threats and renegotiations of the 1951 U.S.-Denmark defense agreement. Proponents argue OASAG resolves these issues by bringing Greenland firmly into an American-led orbit, free from Danish or broader European veto power.
