This tweet created lots of interest 😂 so a few more thoughts on what you CAN do! Even if you are keen to be careful with your fistula arm you can stick to lighter weights then do higher reps for your arms if you prefer. Also mix up push & pull exercises with /1
Lots of people I talk to on #dialysis think they’re “not allowed” to exercise/go to the gym because they’ve been scared witless after fistula surgery by being told to not even lift a bag of shopping with that arm. Regular weight training has ⬆️ my bone density by 8% since 2018 /1

A LIFE JOURNEY BEYOND SPORT! #dialysis#inclusion 📷
A new Article: "The diagonal of my dreams", an adventure that matches my passion for sport, but also my commitment to long night hemodialysis (HDLN).

It was a pleasure to join this @goKDIGO@EDTNAERCA session highlighting the key role nurses play in identification & management of common symptoms in #dialysis. An effective MDT approach with patients & nurse leaders at the heart is crucial for better QoL & reduced symptom burden
Dialysis is a life-saving treatment for people with #KidneyFailure, but it can also be intensive & gruelling.
Our new #NIHRevidence Collection brings together examples of research that could improve care.

I am testing a theory. An annoying thing about being on dialysis despite getting so much great quality treatment on nocturnal HHD, is that I am always freezing cold. Plus I live in the UK 🙄😂 so I’ve taken up open water swimming, aiming to swim through the winter by /1
@Rups_3 Thanks for your replies! I notice it more as I head towards needing my next dialysis session so inclined to think it’s metabolic or loosely “toxin related” although if it routinely continues in transplant then maybe not 🤷♀️🙈
@Heretoanywhere I think there are probably multiple reasons! Especially if you have other health conditions as well, which I don’t have but I know feeling cold on dialysis and often also after transplant for many seems to be a universal experience
@AnnaGaddy I have my machine set at 36.2 as I ascribe to the theory that lower temp dialysate is better (I recall some research into it) but perhaps it has an effect beyond the actual treatment!
@SDQuinlan Yes it’s definitely worse when anaemic but currently my Hb is totally normal! So I’m assuming it’s something metabolic or a combination of factors, but anyway so far so good I haven’t got hypothermia 😂
@MattCave_ 😂😂😂😂 hey Matt so I am actually going through menopause but the times I NEED a hot flush like in the cold water, they are helpfully very absent 😂 🤷♀️
I do not see any #kidney content on here anymore nor any of my #dialysis friends’ posts - just rubbish and ads 😢 are people still using X or where is #nephtwitter these days? I miss how much I used to learn and find out on here (photo for the algorithm my swim yesterday ❤️)
Who’s coming to @DialysisSociety conference? I will be co-facilitating a workshop on home HD training techniques & tips on Weds afternoon, we would love to see you there. Will also be sharing my extensive guide to tackling self-needling phobia #homedialysis#vascularaccess
@e2qpr Hello unfortunately the workshop sessions are not virtual because there are multiple taking place across different areas of the conference concurrently
