REI’s CEO announced “accelerating AI” as one of their six priorities for 2026 earlier this year. If REI had invested more in people than AI, they wouldn’t have a viral Reddit fumble on their hands 🤷♀️
THREAD: Does REI owe you a refund? REI is failing to uphold the values that make people want to support the Co-op and pay a premium price. You have the power to hold REI accountable and get justice for being deceived. 👇🧵
We can’t wait to have our San Diego coworkers join us at the bargaining table - check back soon as they share more about what they’re fighting for at their store and why a union is the best way to get REI back on track.
CONGRATS REI SAN DIEGO!!!
Our coworkers in SD just voted Union Yes and are set to join our movement as the 12th unionized REI store! This decisive victory shows REI that we’re not slowing down our fight for a better REI.
We saw nearly 500 different leafleting and boycott actions, ranging from Camp-Ins to banner drops and union rallies. Our coworkers even went on strike in Durham to bring the fight to REI even further and remind them: We’re still demanding a fair union contract!
THANK YOU for boycotting REI alongside us for 10 days straight!!
Because of you all, our historic boycott was a resounding success. We turned away thousands of REI customers across 30 states, with the support of 300 Co-op members and hundreds more people from our communities.
It didn't work. Co-op members' solidarity with workers is only growing stronger by the day.
Boycott REI now until May 25th. Stand with REI workers. https://t.co/NMew0uO5QO
Thanks @hannahkrieg for the videos!
An REI co-op member sitting peacefully in her camp chair -- reading a book, wearing a hand-painted "Boycott REI" shirt, warmly greeting customers -- got arrested by six police officers yesterday at REI's Seattle flagship.
That's who REI called the cops on.
Co-op members showed up with homemade muffins, camp chairs, and pledge cards from 70,000 boycotting members. We were joyful. We were ready to show our solidarity with REI workers. REI responded with handcuffs.
HAPPENING NOW: Our coworkers at @reiuniondurham walked out ON STRIKE and are reminding Co-op members to boycott REI through the end of their Anniversary Sale!
We’re officially entering the second and final weekend of REI’s A-Sale, so ICYMI, here’s why we’re calling on REI members to BOYCOTT through Monday the 25th.
We’re feeling stronger than ever because of all the support we’ve seen from Co-op members and the rest of our union community as we’ve built up to this boycott. Now, let’s make it happen together. ✊
@REI just kicked off their Anniversary Sale, so it’s officially time for us to start BOYCOTTING!
From now until May 25th, don’t shop at REI, and don’t cross the line.
After years of union-busting and no fair contract, 70,000+ @REI members and counting have already pledged to boycott the REI Anniversary Sale (May 15–25). Stand with @reiunion. Don’t shop the sale!

REI members across the country are saying enough! Tens of thousands of them have already pledged to boycott the REI anniversary sale May 15-25.
Solidarity with @REIunion in their fight for a fair contract. Stand with REI workers — don’t shop during the anniversary sale!
