Hosted by the RSC Early Career Network, this symposium brings together early-career chemists from all disciplines and sectors together - 30/31 August 2018
Are you a #postdoc seeking an independent career in academic research? Joliot-Curie is dedicated to supporting #ECRs with talks from @SaifulChemistry, @ImperialSci Tom Welton & more + our game-changing funding workshop. Register today https://t.co/ZsPd9kXODL #ECRchat#phdchat
Its hard to say for sure, but i think most of my research wouldn't have happened if not for successful networking. We always underestimate how important it is for research. #RSCECS2018
Early career chemists came together in Liverpool last week to discuss the latest advances in the chemical sciences and gain valuable career support at our 5th Early Career Symposium @RSC_ECS#RSCECS2018 https://t.co/7WAaiBIfLX
That's it from #RSCECS2018. Thank you to our wonderful delegates & speakers for their questions & honesty. Be bold, be self-aware, connect with others & do what you enjoy in life! The chemistry community is already so supportive but let @RoySocChem know how else we can help.
The community are a great collective voice for chemistry. Embrace your inner role model. Work with the public's current understanding of chemistry. We don't have to change perceptions instead work with them. You will be the Brian Cox of chemistry to them. #RSCECS2018#scicomm
Anyone @RSC_ECS interested in our public attitudes to chemistry research, you can find the full report and handy communications toolkit here: https://t.co/Bu7m6NqZQz Thanks @JamieBGall and @FunSizeSuze#RSCECS2018
Our panel talking about evaluating outreach - think about what are you trying to achieve with your engagement? Treat it as a research project. Situation before & after & how you have influenced that change. Word association with kids works! #scicomm#RSCECS2018
Don't have to prance around on stage & be a comedian to communicate science. There are so many ways! If you're in a uni then talk to press or marketing team. They'll help you! Tips to get involved in #scicomm from @FunSizeSuze and @JamieBGall#RSCECS2018
Being brave, sunscreen analysis, vaccine encapsulation, biodegradable polymers, the fight against gender imbalance - great talks from amazing women. ..I have found soo many #sheroes to draw inspiration from! 👩🏻🔬🏅💪 #RSCECS2018#WomenInSTEM#WomenInScience
"You can define and decide what success means to you. For me it was a career that made me happy." Words of wisdom from Tom Welton @impchemistry#RSCECS2018
If moving around for #postdocs isn't an option then developing your network, collaborating with local universities & utilising local resources across science then you can still be a successful researcher. Not everything you're told about becoming a researcher is true!#RSCECS2018
Tips for a cold pitch for a postdoc; best way to impress someone is to impress them. Do your homework on the group, mention their papers, meet & really engage. Talk to others in the group. Show that you're proactive & know about funding that could be accessed #RSCECS2018
Libby Gibson @UniofNewcastle says when I'm interviewing for postdoc she asks what they would do with 1 free day a week. Don't say what you think they want to hear! Talk about what YOU want to research or the skills you want to develop. #ecrchat#phdchat#RSCECS2018
Networking advice from Tom Welton at Imperial - be kind & introduce people to each other. It's so much easier to introduce people even if you've forgotten their name! It really is incredibly valuable. #RSCECS2018
