A good morning for reading suggestions to help process fury. Because I wrote it, I’ll start with my book, Good and Mad, about the history & political power of women’s anger, now in paperback (& on sale in hardcover). BUT WAIT THERE’S LOTS MORE: https://t.co/YGLY9GgoAK
This is how many times each top candidate is mentioned in statements of intent from prospective #MESEN Dem delegates:
-“Jackson” 474 times
-“Shah” 276 times
-“Bellows” 100 times
-“Jordan Wood” mentioned 2 times
-“Dan Kleban” mentioned … zero times
Writing again about Maine, its politics, the national circus around it, and what's to be gleaned about performance, power-building and our view of humanity in the wake of the unspeakably evil killing of Joan Sebastian Guerrero. https://t.co/LtfgXDAdWX
"We don't talk enough about how shared anger can also bring people together. It's the building blocks of organizing and of movements; it's also how people support each other."
Rebecca Traister (@rtraister), author of "Anger Will Get Us Through"
Believe it or not since it’s a Thursday past 10pm ET, but several very important election results will drop in the next hour or 2:
—the by-election in Manchester that may end up producing a new Prime Minister in UK,
—ranked-choice voting results in Maine, with Gov race at stake.
I don’t think these people understand how small the Maine media market is. The Mills ads about the rape comments & tattoo ran everywhere. Graham is also everywhere, but in person answering everyone’s questions. His signs are all over the place in Maine.
@aseitzwald Though this is a riff on what it's been like having ANY conversation in Maine for the past eight months: I went to high school with Graham Platner! I went to kindergarten with Graham Platner! I knew Graham Platner's third grade teacher! I played sports with Graham Platner!
Great piece, but it's funny seeing all these people tweet the headline who I'm like 99% sure are not, in fact, Maine Reporter @thejoshkeefe. https://t.co/PomDyXtChq
.@rtraister appeared on @TheDailyShow to discuss her new book, ANGRY GIRLS WILL GET US THROUGH. The book, adapted for young readers by Ruby Shamir from Traister’s adult nonfiction, was published last month by Simon & Schuster. @simonkids https://t.co/qO7JL3wTbi
The connection between Mira Nair’s career as an artist and her son’s as a politician is far more significant than the fact that they share some Hollywood stardust, @rtraister writes. https://t.co/PH9HNEkArC
Honestly an incredible moment; Senator Kennedy expressing what appears to be total shock when learning about a major component of the Trump admin's war on legal immigration.
In the last month ICE has bought warehouses in:
- Hagerstown, MD: $102 million
- Surprise, AZ: $70 million
- Hamburg, PA: $87 million
- Tremont, PA: $120 million
- San Antonio, TX: $82 million
- El Paso, TX: $123 million
- Social Circle, GA: price unknown
This is unprecedented.
