Ex-Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax and his wife Cerina, who were going through a divorce, were found dead inside their northern Virginia residence.
Both their teenage children were home at the time.
"This has been an ongoing domestic dispute, surrounding what seems to be a complicated or messy divorce," the police chief told reporters.
