Tsegué-Maryam Guèbrou, an Ethiopian nun, pianist, and composer. She recorded her works in the 1960s, but they remained largely unknown until rediscovered in the 2000s through the Éthiopiques series. The personal tragedy that led Tsegué-Maryam Guèbrou to become a nun was the death of her adoptive mother. Though details are scarce — partly due to her private and reclusive nature — this loss deeply affected her and became a turning point in her life. Afterward, she chose a path of spiritual devotion, retreating from public life and taking religious vows in the Ethiopian Orthodox Church.
