@clhubes I made sure to always wear “real” clothes. The ONE time I didn’t, I had a flat tire. The SRO helped me change it, while everyone had to make their way around me. A friend leaned out of his car and yelled “Hey bum! You can’t park there!” 😅🤦♀️
@dprzygoda Just for perspective, this story is behind a paywall. A curated thread isn’t going to have the reach or punch it did when available to every workingman on his commute.
@da7las I put a pickup cart together from Kroger just to see. All Kroger brand, but turkey, mashed potatoes, sweet potato casserole, corn, green bean casserole, dressing, cranberry sauce, frozen dinner rolls and a pumpkin pie. Plus milk and butter. $48.
@BakedGoodsYYC@cowboygarters@bigkiitten Is this addressed to me? I have a 20+ year relationship, and we have no communication problems. Shorthand is a thing. If I say “my tires are low,” it’s not passive aggressive. It’s just a note.
@TheLeftorium@Paul_Bowers They are. But not worse than any romance novel I co-opted from my mom’s discards at that age. Those often used to include rape as a plot line. For real. These at least have consent/want built in.
@m3rcurian@TheLeftorium@Paul_Bowers You must be referring to the Throne of Glass series. They were her first works. They’re not particularly spicy. The next ones are dirtier than any supermarket bodice ripper out there. (And why would you get that one banned?)
@cowboygarters@bigkiitten More like “My tire light came on.” I don’t use the air compressor, so I make sure he knows so we can take care of it before I need to drive again. If she’s in charge of laundry and you needed an item for work tomorrow, mentioning it the day before is also reasonable.
@sm_grable@RyeWhiskeyBear@girlziplocked Don’t get me wrong, that’s awesome! Our lumber guy (the owner) is one of those. I’d never receive those sorts of comments when pulling up to pick up an order. (I’m also a woman)
@sm_grable@RyeWhiskeyBear@girlziplocked I do wonder how much of that is how the rest of admin (owners, etc) also act? Vibes say a lot. Also that would be pretty common here in the South, even today. Some older men, especially ones raised a certain way, would never. I find it less the older I get.
@jfbeacom@clhubes Mine are 19/21 now, so we’re past it. But I always tried to be aware of that. The hardest part is being the adult. So everyone is good, they meltdown, we comfort. We get to melt down later (if we’re still awake at that point). Rinse and repeat.
@jfbeacom@clhubes I’ve thought that a lot over the years. They try so hard because they know what they’re supposed to do on the outside. Home is where they meltdown. Because that’s where they’re given permission to just be.
@thisuser_isdumb@RadioFreeTom Women’s rights was her issue all through her VP term. Political capital usually gets spent on one BIG thing right out of the gate, and this might be hers. Especially if it’s what drove people to vote for her.
@thisuser_isdumb@RadioFreeTom It’s a hard sell to roll back anything that has had as significant impact on people’s lives as obviously as this has. I sure hope it’s a blowout. Like, can’t be misinterpreted, we’re ROARING mad! Depending on the makeup of Congress, it could be a defining moment.
