P-TECH Brooklyn's inaugural Computer Science cohort significantly outperformed The City University of New York community college graduation benchmarks. While the average two-year graduation rate for full-time first-time associate degree students entering CUNY community colleges in Fall 2015 was 9.1%, P-TECH's first cohort achieved a 68% STEM associate degree completion rate within two years of high school graduation City Tech, CUNY IBM NYC Public Schools Office of Student Pathways New York Alliance for Early College Pathways (NY4ECP) New York State Education Department.
P-TECH Brooklyn demonstrated exceptional postsecondary velocity. More than half of the inaugural cohort completed associate degree requirements ahead of schedule, and 68% earned STEM associate degrees within two years of high school graduation. While traditional community colleges reported two-year graduation rates averaging 9.1%, P-TECH students achieved degree attainment at a rate more than seven times higher, illustrating the effectiveness of an integrated Grades 9-14 pathway that compresses the time between high school enrollment and college credential attainment.

Traditional High School Accountability
In 2014-15, P-TECH's four-year graduation rate was 72%, roughly comparable to city averages and below its comparison group. Based on graduation rates alone, P-TECH would not have appeared exceptional.
However, other indicators told a different story:
84% College and Career Ready
65% College Ready according to CUNY standards
72% enrolled in college or another postsecondary program within six months
93% six-year high school graduation rate
Postsecondary Outcomes
Among the first P-TECH cohort:
71 students graduated high school in August 2015.
48 students earned the CUNY New York City College of Technology STEM Associate degree by 2017.
11 earned the degree before or at high school graduation.
37 additional students completed the degree during Grades 13 and 14.
Approximately 68% earned a STEM associate degree within two years of high school graduation.
Importantly, the slide highlights:
No academic screening and no college remediation.
These were not students selected through competitive admissions or filtered by prior achievement.
Contrast with National Benchmarks
The National Student Clearinghouse benchmark data for the high school Class of 2015 show that only:
8% of graduates from high-poverty schools completed STEM degrees within six years.
11% of graduates from high-minority schools completed STEM degrees within six years.
14% of graduates from urban schools completed STEM degrees within six years.
Yet P-TECH produced:
68% STEM associate degree completion within two years of high school graduation.
This suggests that P-TECH students were achieving college credential milestones years earlier than national peers from comparable school environments.

In 2013 President Obama mentioned Pathways in Technology Early College High School in the State of the Union (P-TECH is now replicated in 17 states and 28 countries).
Let’s also make sure that a high school diploma puts our kids on a path to a good job. Right now, countries like Germany focus on graduating their high school students with the equivalent of a technical degree from one of our community colleges. So those German kids, they're ready for a job when they graduate high school. They've been trained for the jobs that are there. Now at schools like P-Tech in Brooklyn, a collaboration between New York Public Schools and City University of New York and IBM, students will graduate with a high school diploma and an associate's degree in computers or engineering.
We need to give every American student opportunities like this.
