My name is Ras J. Baraka, I’m the Mayor of Newark and I am running for Governor of New Jersey.
We’ve used creativity and imagination to transform Newark and I know that together, we can do the same for the challenges of our state.
Every night in the ER, I see the fallout from bad policy decisions — people suffering because leaders chose not to act.
I’m running for Congress to change that. Join me in building a government that heals: https://t.co/0oCCZDY0Fs
Black people winning is the heart of reparations.
When Black people win, everyone wins.
This inspired the NJ Reparations Council’s groundbreaking report, “For Such A Time As This—The Nowness of Reparations for Black People in New Jersey,” available here: https://t.co/vOREzDlUeB
When @rasjbaraka was arrested by ICE in May, he showed the nation that Mayors can lead the way in fighting Trump’s authoritarianism.
I was proud to stand in solidarity with Newark residents that evening until he was released—and proud to have his endorsement in this race.
This isn’t the end. New Jersey is about to experience a new day.
Everyday people are getting on board with the idea that a fairer, more equitable New Jersey is possible and it’s what we deserve.
I want to thank everyone who worked on my campaign. Every organization that has endorsed this campaign. My wife. My kids. And most importantly you. With you, a better New Jersey will be reimagined.
God bless

Credit @hereswhykevin : EXCLUSIVE: Ras Baraka is a lifelong activist, poet, community leader and now, the mayor of Newark, New Jersey, is running to become the Democratic nominee for Governor.
With a crowded field of candidates that are focused mostly on being anti-Trump, I wanted to talk to Ras Baraka about his progressive politics and how he thinks Democrats should be winning back voters they lost in 2024.
Baraka spoke to me about why he thinks Democrats in power say progressives can’t win elections. He also spoke about the approach the party needs to take to earn the trust of voters, policies Democrats should focus on and the responsibility of the press in this era of American politics.
Here I laid out why I am the only progressive candidate running for governor. Read my full piece below and join us in the fight for a better New Jersey. Vote #RasForGovernor June 10th

I said it before and I’ll say it again. We are in a fight for the integrity of our constitution and protection of our democracy.

All workers have a constitutional right to safety. Casino workers are no different than restaurant servers, bartenders, or casino managers for that matter. We need to ban smoking in casinos because no one in New Jersey should have to be poisoned for a paycheck, and I would absolutely sign that legislation into law.
Had a great time at yesterday’s Puerto Rican Festival in Perth Amboy! Thanks for the warm welcome and to El Comité Patriótico Cultural Puertorriqueño for hosting.
Latinos for Baraka!
Ras Baraka (@rasjbaraka) has been on the frontlines fighting for our members and immigrant communities!
