🇲🇽 Fans have been comparing Mexican baseball player Randy Arozarena and soccer player Julián Quiñónes as the two share a similar story.
Arozarena was recently asked about how he feels about these comparisons.
“Well, I believe that Julián Quiñones did a great job,” the Seattle Mariners player answered.
“Thanks also to Mexico for giving him nationality and thanks to him for representing Mexico the way he did.
“He did very well. I think we are kind of similar, right? We also look alike [laughs].
“We are naturalized players and we will always represent Mexico. For us, it is an honor, and we represent it with all our heart.”
Arozarena defected from Cuba to Mexico in 2015, when he was 19.
Despite playing for Cuba at the youth level, he switched allegiance to Mexico and debuted in 2022.
Meanwhile, Quiñónes also moved to Mexico in 2015 from Colombia, when he was 17.
Despite playing for Colombia at the youth level, he switched allegiance to Mexico and debuted in 2023.
Both players have done very well for Mexico at the international level, Arozarena in the World Baseball Classic and Quiñónes in the World Cup.
