Meet David Mazouz

The Modern Orthodox Jewish kid who Became Batman

David Mazouz, born in 2001 to Sephardic Jewish parents
grew up in a kosher, observant home.

He attended Shalhevet High School a Modern Orthodox yeshiva-style school celebrated his Bar Mitzvah at an Orthodox shul, and has called Judaism “the core of my identity.”

A lifelong Batman fan, he was cast as young Bruce Wayne in Fox’s Gotham (2014–2019) at age 13, playing the future Dark Knight across five seasons while still enrolled at Shalhevet,

balancing filming in New York and returning for regular classes, Gemara studies, and school life.

From a proud Orthodox teen juggling Torah learning and Gotham sets to the actor who brought young Batman to life,

David’s journey is one of faith, dedication, and turning childhood dreams into reality.
He played Batman… while in Shalhevet.

[David Mazouz @realdavidmazouz]

blown away by how real the conflict felt. could only be pulled off by the combination of subtle actors with deep emotional wells &, more importantly, a writer director who understands the intricacies of relationship conflict so well he doesn’t need to ever define them
