The aggressive promotion of hybrid and genetically modified seeds by multinational corporations is eroding Africa’s vast agricultural diversity. The continent's nutrition and health depend on diverse local crops adapted to varied environments, but corporate seeds push uniformity, putting at risk centuries of biodiversity cultivated by African farmers. Protecting farmer-managed seeds is essential to defending Africa’s agricultural future against the homogenizing forces of corporate control​.
