@mikeeverly9@EllieJaneTaylor I wish I had an answer for you, Mike, but FX never gave me a clear reason why the show didn’t move forward. I was told at one point that “everyone liked it, but no one loved it.” A real blow for me.

@yochriskenny If we’re talking about Sanders, the first episode written was titled “Hey Now” by Garry and series co-creator Dennis Klein. As happens with many series, pilot episodes end up buried later in the first season because the more episodes you do, the more you learn.
I thought for sure I’d wake up to see a picture of Rock/Smith at some Oscar party, arms around each other and all smiles, because Smith’s team DESPERATELY wanted/needed that picture.
The fact that it could not be orchestrated says a lot.
So you win the biggest award possible in your profession, and then whenever you look at it for years to come, you think, “Oh, yeah, that was the night I showed a world audience who I really was.”
I shared a stand-up stage with Louie Anderson in Minneapolis 40 years ago (I was a dilettante and he was already a consummate pro). In all the 40 years that have passed, I never, never saw any person work an audience as well or easily as that man did.
