It simply means that you have to ask yourself the right questions before you craft your slides.
Here are the 6 questions I always use :
1. Who is the audience?
2. What am I trying to accomplish?
3. Whatโs the message?
4. What story am I telling to share this message?
5. What elements are supporting this message?
6. How do I organize these elements to fit the story?
Be intentional with your presentations.
You can follow a simple method such as the ๐ ๐ถ๐ป๐ถ๐บ๐๐บ ๐ฉ๐ถ๐ฎ๐ฏ๐น๐ฒ ๐ฃ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐๐ฒ๐ป๐๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป (Link in comment ๐). It will help you spend less time on your presentations WHILE improving their quality and impact.
Did you know that you can save time by exporting a Word Document into PowerPoint Presentation? You can then use AI for the layout.
โ If you want to do a good presentation, please, do NOT use this technique โ๏ธ
Spending less time on the design is a good idea. But make sure you do it so you can spend more time thinking about your Audience, Messages & Story.
In business, we see many bad presentations. ๐
They are ๐ฐ๐ผ๐ป๐ณ๐๐๐ถ๐ป๐ด & ๐ฏ๐ผ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ป๐ด for different reasons.
But if we look closely, the root causes can be summarized in 3:
Lack of intentionality
Lack of clarity
Lack of simplicity

TIP: Want to be sure you did it right? Show the slide to a friend for 3-5 seconds without saying anything. Then hide it and ask her to explain the idea of the slide.
That might be true, but if you don't simplify, your audience won't remember (or worse, understand).
What is an active title? According to the awesome book Everyday Business Storytelling, an active title should have an active verb.
Simple but not easy.
I hear this excuse from colleagues and clients all the time. I have to admit that it's often true...
But, most of the time, it becomes a paradox. The "I don't have time" paradox.
We don't take the time, we multitask, and we rarely follow a method. Therefore, we end up spending way more time than we should on our presentation.
