Sharron, I think this goes considerably further than what the Supreme Court actually decided.
The Court ruled that “man”, “woman” and “sex” have a biological meaning for the purposes of the Equality Act 2010.
It did not instruct journalists to describe every trans woman as a “trans-identifying male”, nor did it rule that describing somebody as a “trans woman” is a lie. In fact, the Supreme Court’s own judgment repeatedly uses the terms “trans woman” and “trans man”.
I also think we need considerably more nuance when we talk about biology.
Not every trans woman has experienced a typical male puberty. Some transitioned young and received puberty-suppressing treatment before the changes associated with male puberty progressed. Their developmental history can therefore be very different from somebody who transitioned after completing male puberty.
I completely accept that biological characteristics can be relevant in particular circumstances. Sport is an obvious example, and I respect that you have both strong views and considerable experience in that area. Those discussions deserve proper evidence and serious consideration.
But that doesn’t explain why somebody’s birth sex needs to be foregrounded every time a trans person is mentioned.
If a trans woman is an academic, doctor, parent, colleague, neighbour or simply somebody going about her life, what additional factual understanding does calling her a “trans-identifying male” provide that describing her as a “trans woman” does not?
We can acknowledge biological sex where it is relevant without insisting that it must become the defining description of a human being in every context.
That’s not denying biology.
And calling somebody a trans woman isn’t “lying”.
It’s an accurate and widely understood description of a transgender person, one even used by the Supreme Court itself.
Surely there is room in this debate for both factual accuracy and human dignity.

For those of you reading this post, why not give this man’s legacy a try? If I had to guess which fantasy author of our era will be read most in the centuries to come, I’d lay my money on the works of Sir Terry Pratchett.

“I woke to the news that Sir Terry Pratchett passed away. I knew this was coming, but—as with the passing of Robert Jordan almost eight years back—it still hit me like a slap to the face… The most fitting memorial I can give is this: a request.

The Muppets have released a statement on the passing of Tim Curry.
"Few humans have earned the title of honorary Muppet more than the legendary Tim Curry. As a performer, he was unparalleled – witty, charming, unnerving, and deeply funny. We will always consider it one of our greatest treasures to have been part of Long John Silver’s crew. Thank you for everything, Tim."
Just 24 hours after our last post, everyone at the #DiscworldConvention is extremely saddened by the loss of Tim Curry. Tim played Trymon in the 2008 TV adaptation of Sir #TerryPratchett's The Colour of Magic.
Tim and his magnificent voice will be very much missed.
