@RIDeptEd claims to have a rigorous charter process. Facts say otherwise. Missing documents, incomplete apps, & secret meetings lead to a troubling pattern. We must pass the moratorium & take time to fully investigate. @RISenate@RIHouseofReps@GovDanMcKee
There are missing documents related to recent charter applications & approvals. This is yet another reason we need a moratorium, in fact, this is another reason we need a full investigation into @RIDeptEd’s corruption. @AGNeronha@RISenate
And now seemingly corrupt charter bosses, who used the @RIDeptEd commish office to lobby for billionaires, are threatening anyone who questions them. Let’s put kids before out-of-state political interests. @RISenate@RIHouseofReps@GovDanMcKee
Billionaire-backed & seemingly corrupt charter bosses are neglecting to mention that they violated the law. Lying won’t change reality. Let’s just give DL opportunities to public schools that serve ALL students. @RIHouseofReps@RISenate@GovDanMcKee

The De La Communidad charter application is illegal and multiple communities have filed suit to stop it. @PVDMayor has intentionally neglected to mention this as he supports out-of-state billionaires’ privatization agenda. It’s either dishonest or unethical.
Pawtucket & Cranston have filed a suit to stop illegal charter expansion yet out-of-state billionaires are trying to force it. Pass the moratorium/cap. https://t.co/aebzNUcztI @RIHouseofReps@GovDanMcKee
Charter schools continue to exclude high-need special education students. Pass the moratorium & prioritize the schools that accept ALL students. @RISenate@RIHouseofReps@GovDanMcKee
The charter moratorium is a wise pause. The desperation of charter bosses to stop it shows they are panicking abt accountability for discriminatory practices & questionable use of taxpayer $ for bloated admin & CMOs. @RIHouseofReps@RISenate@GovDanMcKee
RI charter bosses refuse to accept high-need special education students or pay their workers prevailing wages, but they have no problem taking $$ from a Texas billionaires and paying themselves more than superintendents. @GovDanMcKee@RISenate@RIHouseofReps

Why is @AInfanteGreen manipulating simple @pvdschools return to local control by undermining authority of a hybrid SB with ELECTED members? @RIDeptEd has denied the return long enough! What role is PPSD attorney Rapport playing?
“Communities First” means every child matters — not just the students charter schools choose to serve. Public schools welcome and educate all students, including those too often excluded, counseled out, or left behind by charters. https://t.co/EiiX3RkVbh
Rep. David Morales was joined by Providence School Board member Night Jean Muhingabo, @rifthp, the National Education Association of RI and @MultilingualRI at the State House Tuesday to call for the passage of legislation to strengthen Rhode Island schools in the face of potential budget cuts.
“Right now many of our Rhode Island public schools are in crisis. This crisis impacts our multilingual learners who now encompass nearly 20% of students across our state and who do not have the staff and support that they need in their schools; and it impacts students across Rhode Island in districts that are facing a reduction in state aid due to brutal federal cuts to SNAP that impact how student poverty is calculated by the state,” said Rep. Morales (D-Dist. 7, Providence). “These issues facing our schools will impact generations of students if legislative action is not taken. Just in Providence alone, due to the SNAP cuts, we have seen the school funding formula count of students in poverty fall from 14,000 to 12,000, which translates to approximately $11 million less in state aid this fiscal year for a district that is facing a deficit and considering laying off upwards of 80 teachers. This is not sustainable for our classroom, it is not sustainable for our students and it is a disservice to our families.”

A generation of billionaire-backed charter expansion has drained resources from high-need students and weakened the public schools that serve every child. After decades of disruption, the promised results still haven’t materialized. https://t.co/FnsFHC29kJ

@GovDanMcKee@RIHouseofReps@RISenate The Rule of 90 legislation would provide relief for municipalities & help minimize layoffs. You should pass the bill this session. It’s really common sense at this point. @AlexandraLeslie
NEW: More than 100 staff positions in the Providence Public School District -- a majority of which are teachers -- are on the chopping block in the upcoming fiscal year.
