This is it folks: sideloading is coming to iOS (at least for our EU friends), and maybe full-blown 3rd party app stores too
As someone who’s been running a 3rd party app store for past few years...this will greatly affect me 🤪
So perhaps unsurprisingly, I have some thoughts 🧵
New story: Apple is preparing to allow alternative app stores and side-loading on iOS — along with a slew of other changes to make the iPhone more open — in response to new European Union requirements arriving in 2024. https://t.co/hZpXrKdHGj
Europe’s coolest alternative app marketplace is HERE!
Introducing AltStore PAL — an Apple-approved version of AltStore exclusive to the EU
Download now from our website for just €1.50/year (+ VAT) 🇪🇺 https://t.co/3ZfYbq4QNU
And for the nerdier crowd: once Threads enables ActivityPub support I’ll be using my Mastodon account for everything, so you can skip the in-between by following me directly there: https://t.co/6ytNgjnUQv
@AppInstalleriOS@altstoreio We wanted to release something ASAP without taking away too much time from Delta development (especially because this is only for older iOS versions), and integrating the source code directly would’ve taken significantly longer to polish and debug 🤷♂️
Say Goodbye to Tweetbot.
We've been proud to serve you over the last 12+ years, but due to circumstances beyond our control, we have to shut down Tweetbot.
Thank you so much for your patience and outpouring of support over these tough times at Tapbots.

I’ve been using Tweetbot since it came out in 2011; it’s synonymous with Twitter for me, and I’m furious to see it killed in the most cowardly way possible
Without it, I don’t plan to use Twitter anymore — stay in touch on Mastodon (in bio)
Thanks for everything Tweetbot 💜
Tweetbot has been around for over 10 years, we've always complied with the Twitter API rules.
If there's some existing rule that we need to comply with, we'd be happy to do so, if possible. But we do need to know what it is...
@TwitterDev, you know how to reach us.
@conradev Maybe a misunderstanding here? I’m not arguing Apple’s store is more secure than others, just that human review *in general* provides value over just sideloading/notarization
I don’t want 3rd party stores for other reasons, but I agree they’d curate their stores like Apple does

Opinion: Don't fear the reports that sideloading could be coming to iOS, @altstoreio has proven that it can be safe and secure. https://t.co/vDjHmyKxV2
