Today I asked @CaseyNeistat probably the most important question I could think of for #YouTube Creators today... here is Casey’s advice for aspiring or current #YouTubers...
(Thanks Casey! 😎)
Not every thumbnail gets clicks because it "generates curiosity."
Some get clicked because of a more overlooked type of intrigue - aesthetic.
Aesthetic thumbnails aren't creating a mystery or evoking questions within the viewer, they're selling a feeling.
We see this strategy used across several niches:
-Lo-fi music
-Vlog
-Travel
-Filmmaking
-Self-improvement
-Beauty
& so many more.
Some of the most powerful thumbnails don't always tell a dramatic story, sometimes they simply create a moment that you want to be a part of.
---
This idea crept up on me earlier this week; I realized no one really talks about the psychology or even design of lo-fi music thumbnails. And then that got me thinking of how that same psychology branches into other niches that also utilize "aesthetic" thumbnail concepts. So I really just wanted to share!
With all that said, I hope everyone has a fun & safe 4th of July weekend!! Take this time to enjoy a well deserved break😌🇺🇸🎆🍔 (That goes for my non-American friends as well - enjoy your weekend!!!)
@Bi6_Puffin It would depend on the audience and culture and if you’re a PRO player.
Most creators audiences just won’t tolerate variety from someone who is not already a famous YouTuber or streamer…
What are you still trying to solve for your YouTube Channels?
I have some time today in between filming some upcoming content and will either answer here or I might feature your question (with credit) in a video?
@copasetickid It would depend on context and overlap of its entertainment/lifestyle but typically if education it’s not compatible with entertainment.
Have a sedan and an SUV in the driveway…
@Bi6_Puffin Honestly it’s usually a losing battle to do so and the answer as much everyone hates it, is to start another channel.
You can’t switch vegans to a bbq joint…
For Education and Lifestyle High Ticket is physical in person events and experiences…
Value ladders can be “drops”, and they can even use short form for a funnel to memberships as well as use Streaming as a top of funnel for memberships in entertainment.
One of the best people in entertainment to build a proper business is @sircalebhammer …
The business side of YouTube has not been solved… not really.
The logistics of being a solo creator without getting stuck or overworking hasn’t been solved…
The reality of negotiating and pricing brand deals hasn’t been fully solved and creators are still underpricing despite how big they are or how many views they got…
Operating as a creator who has to or wants to keep their full-time job without burning out or breaking down or being inconsistent… hasn’t been solved …
Strategy might “feel solved”… it’s not.
Systems damn sure isn’t solved.
Structure isn’t solved, not even close.
And Support is nowhere near solved.
The problem isn’t courses, coaches, strategist, or “gurus”.
The problem is the culture and creator community lawfully refuses to grow the hell up… and act like adults.
Everyone wants to make this career…
Without ever becoming a proper adult who can carry a career.
Peter Pan Syndrome is the single biggest actual problem in the culture of the Creator Economy…
Because it largely normalized 30 years olds performing being a “cool adult” to 13 year olds…
That can’t continue to go on in any meaningful way…
And the real future of the Creator Middle Class will be built by people who take it seriously and treat it like a proper career with boundaries, standards and systems…
Instead of “the funnest job ever”.
There is nothing depressing or sad about treating content like a business.
The “fun part” is the life you get to live as a result of being able to do something you don’t hate…
That makes room for a life, instead of becoming your life, or just monetizing your life…
If you let content become your whole life or just monetize your life…
Your life is controlled by the audience and the advertisers.
If you treat it like a business with set hour and boundaries, and you hold to standards… you have ownership of your brand, your business but more importantly…
Your life and your relationships.
Many of your favorite large Creators don’t realize they aren’t owners…
They are owned…
They don’t know where the performance ends the person begins…

@Jamesonhertz A video that doesn't revolve around attracting the brain rotted masses and contributes something to the public good. This doesn't have to be education, it could be charity even or a positive message or something incredibly wholesome...
