@alesstar Although it is possible that the German astronaut gets a seat on Artemis III instead, in which case I’m not sure who would likely be the first European on the moon. I do hope Cristoforetti gets to go at some point, she’s really cool!
@alesstar Also, from what I’ve heard the ESA astronaut to land first will likely be German, so not Cristoforetti in that case, but probably rather either Alexander Gerst or Matthias Maurer
I still kind of can’t believe we’re actually launching astronauts on SLS in a couple of minutes. This has been the one I’ve been waiting for as long as I’ve been a space fan, hasn’t fully sunk in yet!
Go SLS, go Orion, and go Artemis II!!! Back to the moon!!!
#ArtemisII
@EvanWillie @975Hans both Chicago teams, both New York teams, Kansas City, etc. etc. Salt Lakes closest counterpart climate wise, Denver, has an open air ballpark.
@EvanWillie @975Hans Are all mostly in place due to high heat and/or humidity. Seattle has one due to rain. The only two outliers are Toronto, which is an old ballpark, built in the 80s I believe? And Milwaukee. Other cold weather cities mostly have non-roofed stadiums, including Detroit, Minnesota…
@SpeedShot7 As much as there are many valid points about issues with gateway as a component of Artemis and its usefulness, it will always be way too cool for me to care. A brand new space station in orbit around the moon!?!? That’s cool as hell!!!
Not to say any of this is impossible… just that I think it’ll take longer than some people think it will. They have to far surpass the reuse capabilities of F9 in order to meet even a portion of their stated goals.
Seriously concerned about hot staging long term. They don’t just have to get the booster to survive it, it has to sustain almost no damage at all. I think this is one of the largest sticking points that will push de elopement yo take much longer than some people think…
The booster doesn’t just have to survive hot staging once… it has to do it many times in a row without significant (or almost any at all) damage, and with no maintenance between flights. Same goes for the ship and it’s heat shield.
