One of the world's most brutal murderers is finally dead.
At 84 years old the former Bosnian Serb general, Ratko Mladić lived way longer than he allowed his tens of thousands of victims.
The more than 7000 Muslim men and boys he had slaughtered in Srebrenica will be his enduring shame.
At least he was tried by an International Criminal Tribunal and found guilty of his enormous crimes of genocide.
I am proud of the work we journalists did in the 90s to document his crimes against humanity, to finally hold him accountable.
🚨After we challenged Newark Mayor Ras Baraka's ILLEGAL blocking of ICE protesters/journalists from wearing protective gear—as ICE keeps attacking both at Delaney Hall protests—he relented. THIS IS WHY REAL INDEPENDENT ON-THE-GROUND JOURNALISM matters. https://t.co/1VnA0FakoP

Not going to lie. I'm 81 years old and I'm scared. Fear of not getting my small food stamp allotment. AND...
I was in a freak accident. This high as a kite druggie, was trying to cheat a fare ducking under the subway turnstile and got stuck, and when he freed himself he lost his footing and catapulted into me like a 200 lb bowling ball, and I fell really hard.
He slithered away laughing all the time. His junkie wife yelled at me, "That's my husband" as I lay on the platform. 'Well he's a junkie" I yelled as she ran after him.
Thank goodness a kind young couple got me standing. Not sure how I got to the top of the subway stairs. Took a cab to NYU Langone ER where I spent 10 hours. I have a fracture in my pelvis and on a cane which means I can't walk and can't work. You know me, I'm always hustling, but don't know when I will be up and running again.
The purpose of this post isn't 'poor me', I just can't stop thinking of the suffering Trump is inflicting on families with children, the sick the poor. After 5 months filming in the halls of immigration court where families are separated, lives ruined, children traumatized in the a matter of seconds. We are so broken. We now longer have three branches of government. The press is next. Just look what's happening at all the major media outlets, CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN....ALL MAGA now. I will keep fighting with my keyboard until I can walk again. Meanwhile, outpouring of love from friends and colleagues is so beautiful and helps healling.
Every summer I have the opportunity to speak to #youth_united_in_peace as they hold a camp for teens from the Former Yugoslavia.
