It's becoming clearer and clearer that China's AI open source strategy may end up being seen as one of the greatest strategic masterstrokes of all time.

They started with a clear resource and technological disadvantage - mainly due to the US semiconductor export controls - and have managed to change the rules of engagement in such a way that the US's own tech leaders and officials are now publicly siding with China's approach against their own companies. Which is pretty extraordinary.

When you can't fight symmetrically, make the adversary's way of fighting obsolete and self-defeating.

And the greatest irony in all this is - had the US not done the export controls - there's a decent chance that not only China wouldn't have gone for the open-source approach but the US would have made an enormous amount of money selling compute to them.

Now they're getting neither the money nor the containment.

We’re back to that whole history thing. As Rep Tim Kane explains with clarity, the history of Iran did not start in 1979, no more than the history of how Israelis treated Palestinians begin after October 7th 2023.

How politically expedient it is for those in power to rewrite history to satisfy a narrative. Just as a footnote, as I said at the very outset of this war of choice, Trump can’t and won’t win. He’s just chalked up another in a long line of defeats for the best funded and allegedly most powerful military on earth.

Many people see to SEVERELY misunderstand the wording of Article 5 of the Memorandum of Understanding between the United States and Iran that led us to this most recent escalation. Let's take a look at Article 5, and the entire MOU for that matter, and dissect "who was wrong".

In Article 5 of the MOU, it reads, in full:
"Upon the signing of this MoU, the Islamic Republic of Iran will make arrangements using its best efforts for the safe passage of commercial vessels, with no charge for 60 days only, from the Persian Gulf to the Sea of Oman, and vice versa. The traffic of commercial vessels will immediately start, and considering the need for removing the technical and military obstacles, and de-mining by the Islamic Republic of Iran, will be instated within 30 days. The Islamic Republic of Iran will conduct dialogue with the Sultanate of Oman, to define the future administration and maritime services in the Strait of Hormuz, in discussions with other Persian Gulf Littoral States, in line with applicable international law and the sovereign rights of coastal states of the Strait of Hormuz."

Let's break this down piece by piece, and I will explain to you why Iran followed the wording to the letter:
"Islamic Republic will make arrangements". This means that Iran will determine how vessels cross the Strait of Hormuz. They will make an arrangement in which vessels can cross. They did this by establishing the Iranian Corridor.
Check.

"Using its best efforts for safe passage of commercial vessels". How many commercial vessels were struck that utilized the Iranian Route? Zero.
Check.

"With no charge for 60 days only, from the Persian Gulf to the Sea of Oman, and vice versa." ... don't charge fees. They didn't.
Check.

"The traffic of commercial vessels will immediately start, and considering the need for removing the technical and military obstacles, and de-mining by the Islamic Republic of Iran, will be instated within 30 days."
This is... slightly more ambiguous depending on how you interpret the 30 day timeline vs 60 day timeline. Regardless, it states that the traffic of commercial vessels will start. It did.
Check.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran will conduct dialogue with the Sultanate of Oman, to define the future administration and maritime services in the Strait of Hormuz, in discussions with other Persian Gulf Littoral States, in line with applicable international law and the sovereign rights of coastal states of the Strait of Hormuz."
This states that Iran will work with Oman to determine... essentially how to charge "fees" instead of "tolls", which is a way to essentially look to circumvent the international maritime restrictions against tolls being imposed.

IF you want to make the argument that by striking vessels utilizing the Omani Route, you run into Article 1:
"The Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States of America, and their allies in the current war, by signing this MoU, declare the immediate and permanent termination of military operations on all fronts, including in Lebanon, and undertake from now on not to initiate any war or any military operation against each other, and to refrain from the threat or use of force against each other, and ensuring the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Lebanon. The final Deal will confirm the permanent termination of the war on all fronts, including in Lebanon, and other provisions of this paragraph."

"Declare the immediate and permanent termination of military options on all fronts". Now... when the vessels were utilizing the Omani Route... was the United States not providing MILITARY air cover? Was the United States Navy NOT assisting in guiding vessels through the Strait? So while you can certainly argue that Iran broke Article 1 by conduct military operations and strikes, it is the United States who broke Article 1 before this.

IF you want to make the moral argument that Iran is committing terrorism by striking civilian vessels... Good luck on your moral high ground after the United States killed 120 schoolchildren on the first day of the war and launched an illegal war of aggression against a sovereign nation.

Put quite simply... There is not an argument to be made that this was any fault other than the United States. Technically speaking, Iran held up every end of the MOU. The United States, in turn, tried to use this window to directly undermine Iran's leverage in order to turn the tables in this conflict and resume hostilities with the advantage. The United States did NOT release the frozen assets as stipulated in the MOU. The United States DID impose new sanctions in direct violation of Article 9 of the MOU. The United States DID shred the oil sanction waivers in violation of Article 10 of the MOU. The United States DID conduct military operations in violation of Article 1 of the MOU. You can certainly also make an argument that the United States violated the sovereign territory of Iran in violation of Article 2 of the MOU.

There is no other way to say it. If the United States and Iran return to all out war, the United States is ENTIRELY to blame.
