“Right-to-Buy in reverse”
We’re investing £50m to acquire 200 homes and reverse the disastrous legacy of Thatcher’s “Right-to-Buy” on local government funding.

Angela Rayner is a giant of the Labour Party.
The first Labour woman to serve as Deputy Prime Minister & in just one year unleashed a radical reforming programme from social housing to employment rights & the devolution of power to communities.
A superstar & an inspiration.
@PinkieBrighton@BoredAlreadyUK@bhlabour Sorry for the delay! Additional recycling is funded through the waste PFI and requires no additional budget allocation. Some food waste capital burdens funding is being used for vehicles, but there is no revenue burdens funding so we are funding the service ourselves.
“Brighton & Hove is determined to step up.”

@BoredAlreadyUK@PinkieBrighton@bhlabour Obviously we knew it was on the cards, but we were committed to doing it regardless of any future date and we were not prepared to wait. New burdens funding for expanding recycling was not necessary as it’s all funded through the waste PFI.
@PinkieBrighton@bhlabour Hi! We’ve been working on this since day 1, and are making these changes a year ahead of the mandate. We had it all lined up before the mandated date was even announced. ♻️
@stevec009 @BrightonHoveCC@TristramBurden@BellaSankey Hi Steve. Textiles are collected by a contractor, and collections have not been as reliable as they should be recently. I’ve seen similar scenes at other locations and we are raising with them. Our streets crews should be visiting this location every day to clear fly-tipping.
Today I’ve announced a major expansion of recycling in Brighton & Hove.
From the spring, we will be accepting the following items:
♻️Plastic pots, tubs & trays
♻️Aluminium foil, including foil trays
♻️Food & drink cartons
Next up - food waste!

@MarkCooperSport At this point, no, but we are looking at how we heat pools, including discussions on using waste heat from data centres. New King Alfred will be zero carbon.
We've installed 292 solar panels on the roof of the Prince Regent swimming pool. 🏊
It's part of an installation of 730 solar panels across the roofs of our buildings - the largest we've done so far. ☀️

@MarkCooperSport Hi Mark! We are looking at the data from our newly launched monitoring network, which is giving us a far better picture across the city, and that will inform next steps. Extension of SCAs a possibility, but want to make sure they are meaningful and not just a gesture.
Today we’re launching a campaign to raise awareness of the impact of open fires and wood burners on public health.
Did you know that burning in homes produces more fine particle pollution than all traffic in the UK? Or that it contributes to 1 in 20 deaths of ppl over 30 in B&H?
We're launching a campaign to raise awareness of the harm being caused by people using wood burners and open fires.
We want people to know the harmful impact that smoke particles from domestic burning are having on everybody’s health.

@stevec009 @BrightonHoveCC@TristramBurden Hi Steve. I believe collections are all still 1 day behind, but possibly additional disruption due to weather and vehicles. I’ll check with the team now to see when you can expect.
@stevec009 @BrightonHoveCC@TristramBurden@bhlabour Thank Steve. Yes, we were a crew down over the weekend so there was a bit of a backlog. Merry Christmas to you! 🎄
We're picking up the pace of our Net Zero ambitions, working with the National Wealth Fund to identify investment models that will support large-scale delivery of low carbon and energy-efficient homes and transport.

@JulieBygraves@climatechangebh@bhlabour Indeed, and our Downland estate is a huge passion of mine. We are working on restoring wild chalk grassland, including “mob” grazing, and working with our tenant farmers to move farming practices to a more regenerative future. It’s 44% of the city! Huge opportunities!
This week I presented our new Decarbonisation Pathways Study at a packed @climatechangebh event.
We’re now working on plans for:
🏠Retrofit
♨️Heat pumps
🏘️Heat networks
☀️Large scale solar
🔌More EV chargers
⚡️Grid upgrades
