@2MINIHULK Defensive ability is hard to project for prospects + more volatile.
Getting a guy who can carry the puck >
(Plus would put less on macklins plate.)
@BaileyMacWulf@aj_strong Defense imo iseasier to learn compared to offensive skill + more variance year to year.
Get the guy who will be a force offensively. System + age will improve defensively if they want to enough.
Argument should be with Reid’s offensive projection over his defensive ability.
@BaileyMacWulf@aj_strong We need someone other than Macklin to be able to exit and enter. Which iirc is a strength of Reid. Part of why I’m good if sharks select Reid at 2 along that it’s a need + other reasons.
Plus I don’t think we should worry about prospects defensive ability as much as we do.
@theTonyFerrari@HadiK_Scouting Agreed, but gms don’t want to take those risks bc their jobs are on the line.
But teams that take advantage of it are huge beneficiaries until it changes.
@Ek65Burner I agree with that on Verhoeff. But I’m not scared of Reid’s traits. And like the offensive upside over Verhoeff enough so where id take him instead of Verhoeff.
@oldtymer11@Ek65Burner Analytically he’s quite fine on defense. Plus it’s not as linear/predictable to say they’re bad now and will stay bad.
Each dmen has a concern. Id take Reid’s turnovers and hope he improves that.
@catswasteland@SlovakShark I feel like most coaches don’t really treat young players the best.
It also didn’t help we ended up being in a playoff push. Hopefully next season is better.
