Intensive operations by the #SAPS Free State Provincial Anti-Gang Unit have resulted in a significant breakthrough against the illicit drug trade in Bloemfontein, with four suspects apprehended and drugs valued at an estimated R46,000 seized alongside substantial amounts of cash.
On Monday, 29 June 2026, between 10:00 and 14:00, members of the Provincial #AntiGang Unit conducted a targeted, high-visibility operation focused on stamping out illegal substances across Mangaung and the Bloemfontein Central Business District (CBD).
At approximately 10:30, operational members followed up on intelligence regarding a suspected drug den in Chris Hani. Upon arrival, a 48-year-old male attempted to flee from the police but was swiftly cornered and apprehended. A thorough search of the premises uncovered Mandrax tablets with an estimated street value of R10,000 hidden beneath a bathtub. A large sum of cash, suspected to be proceeds of crime, was also seized.
Moving deeper into the operational area, the team acted on further intelligence at a residence in Phase 6, Maditlhabela. A 43-year-old female was intercepted in possession of an ice cream bucket containing Mandrax and Crystal Meth, valued at approximately R1,000. An undisclosed amount of cash was also confiscated.
The unit then shifted focus to the Bloemfontein CBD, targeting a flat where a suspected foreign national drug syndicate was operating. Finding the flat locked, tactical entry was forced. Two foreign national males were discovered hiding inside the property. A subsequent search uncovered a large quantity of Crystal Meth worth an estimated street value of R35,000, along with an undisclosed amount of cash.
All four suspects have been charged with dealing in drugs. Additionally, police profiling confirmed that all four individuals are undocumented foreign nationals, leading to further charges for the contravention of the Immigration Act.
The suspects remain in police custody and are expected to appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate's Court soon.
