Men like William Moultrie, William Jasper, Francis Marion, and others defended the harbor against near insurmountable odds and secured a pivotal victory for the cause of liberty just a week before the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

South Carolina mourns the tragic loss of Greenwood Police Department Officer Don “DJ” Keller, who was killed in the line of duty yesterday. Peggy and I ask South Carolinians to join us in praying for his loved ones and the Greenwood community. In honor of his sacrifice, I will order the flags above the Statehouse to be lowered to half-staff on the day of his funeral.

The Small Business Regulatory Freedom Act (H.3021) just passed 3rd reading in the Senate and is officially headed back to the House.
South Carolina’s small businesses deserve a regulatory system that encourages growth and opportunity, not unnecessary red tape.
Let’s finish the job.
“The budget passed by the Senate enables taxpayers to keep more of their hard-earned money while providing for the core functions of state government,” said Senate Finance Committee Chairman, @harveypeeler .
“This is South Carolina’s solution to the sort of Medicaid fraud that’s running rampant in Democrat-run states, like Minnesota and California,” said Senator Billy Garrett, author of the bill. “Fraudsters who engage in these schemes will face serious jail time in South Carolina.”
South Carolina marked another historic step forward today as we ceremonially signed our new income tax bill. This puts us on a path to eliminate the income tax and keep more money in the pockets of hardworking South Carolinians.
