From action-packed episodes featuring sharks, lions, anti-poaching K9 dogs and seal rescues to the wonders of small animals like seahorses, elephant shrews (sengi) and desert insects... an amazing season!
This was on location filming a story for the nature program 50/50 that used to be on SABC. I remember watching the show growing up, (the one night my parents allowed me to stay up a bit later!), so to be part of it was truly incredible and life changing.
Pretty different from where we've just been... sun, sea and sharks! In snow covered Sequoia National Park in California's Sierra Nevada mountains to film the biggest living organism on earth. But first, getting these snow chains on the tyres is a priority!😀
Dispatches to follow.
Here Susan and I are on location in the Grand Canyon… where as always I’m incredibly grateful for her vision and creative eye.
Beautiful stories on our screens soon!
Just returned from an amazing month filming in North America! The reason I have been so quiet here ☺️
In many locations I had limited signal so my field dispatches will be coming in only now about the Grand Canyon, Sharks and the Biggest Tree in the world.
… about black rhinos she encountered during her time in Kenya… “yes they may be wild” she said, “but each had their own way about them, such different personalities”.
Absolutely devastated by the passing of Dr Jane Goodall.
She stood up for what she believed in, and changed how humanity will forever look at animals.
It was a privilege listening to her stories and I remember a very funny one she told me…

Today the 22nd Sept is World Rhino Day and while it is celebrated all over the world, our country is home to most of the world's rhinos. For me this is quite a sobering thought. These iconic animals are part of our South African heritage (which we will be celebrating in 2 days)..
Been away doing some upgrading on my diving skills for an episode we will be filming soon… dispatches to follow 😁
But just had to share this, look who came to say hi!

Hope you've enjoyed the dispatches from the field!
Can't wait to bring these inspiring and positive stories to your TV screen. Next location coming up soon 🐾
Dispatch From The Field:
Isn't this unreal! I have never seen the Namib Desert look like this...
On location at the beautiful NamibRand Nature Reserve where abundant rains have transformed the dunes and gravel plains, how spectacular.
This was one of the many screenings and hundreds of teens lined up at the Cinema Variétés in the historical town of Lier, Belgium, to watch the film.
Their engagement afterwards always centered around 'what can I do?'
How incredible! This gives me so much hope for the future.
It's Throwback Thursday, so I thought I'd grab a memory from the archive, one that will always remain special to me. I was blown away by the interest in ‘STROOP - journey into the rhino horn war' in Europe.
