The new Belém Declaration marks a landmark victory in the global effort to end hunger and poverty, recognizing that they are inseparable from climate action. With 43 countries and the EU signing on, this is a pivotal shift toward a human-centered climate response.
This declaration is a win because it officially:
✅ Prioritizes the most vulnerable by making social protection a foundation of resilience.
✅ Elevates small-scale producers as "Agents of Resilience," committing to scaling up investment and de-risking mechanisms for them.
✅ Creates accountability by setting quantifiable goals to track climate finance flowing directly to smallholders.
