Adding the black outline to the bird is a more close representation of the color scheme from 1940, transferred to the 2020s Fog & Gold Flag design

If the San Francisco Fog & Gold Flag used the current official flags colors it'd look like this.

BTW the current San Francisco Flag design and colors date to 1940 when city boosters thought we needed to emblazon "San Francisco" on the flag lest folks didn't recognize it.

The boosters succeeded in ensuring folks understood the flag represented San Francisco, HOWEVER...

The flag fails on on its symbolism and beauty with way too much text and tiny ribbon with the city motto. The phoenix bird is pretty meh to ugly depending on your taste.
