Police say they also stole GOODWILL DONATIONS FROM THE BACK OF HIS CAR after they repeatedly punched him, stole from his wallet, and then repeatedly STOMPED ON HIS HEAD.

The elderly man, Lance Jefferies, is currently recovering in the hospital.

According to family members, Lance's eyes are swollen shut. He has neck injuries, his jaw is swollen. He has blood clots in his leg and also in his stomach where he was kicked. So now he has to stay in the hospital so he can get surgery, and he’s in a lot of pain.”

Lance is described as "quiet man who rarely goes out much" and stays at home with his wife most of the time.

Just after midnight Thursday, police say a Black man, Elijah Hemingway, got into his home in Edgewood and attacked him and his wife while they were asleep in their bed.

His wife told police they fought back with everything they had.

Their two children, 8 and 12 years old, made it out alive.

A police dog tracked down 32-year-old Elijah Hemingway hiding behind a nearby house with cuts on his hand.

He's now charged with criminal homicide, aggravated assault, burglary, and criminal trespass.

Back in February, according to a criminal complaint, Hemingway forced his way into his ex-partner's home and stole her laptop and two cell phones.

He was arrested in July. Two felonies. Burglary and theft.

An officer warned him he'd get a WARRANT if he didn't show up, he'll have to miss school for it.

His name is Cade, he's 11 years old, a sixth grader in Oviedo, Florida.

His dad helped him start a little summer business selling squirrel tables and Cade worked all summer long, he saved up $900 and he bought that bike himself.

An 11-year-old entrepreneur, in 2026.

On Labor Day, Cade grabbed his fishing pole and rode toward the pond at Sweetwater Park, he was on the shoulder of the road, about 300 FEET from his house.

Why not the sidewalk?

His answer: "If I go on the sidewalk, I can only go 10mph, and also it's going to scare the pedestrians."

Then, an Oviedo police officer pulled him over.

Asked him for his license, his registration, his proof of insurance.

Then they called in the city tow truck!!!!!!

His dad's words: "They called in the city wrecker for this little, tiny electric bike and winched it on up there."

Next Tuesday, Cade has to skip school to stand in front of a judge.

Yes TECHNICALLY the police have a point under Florida law, but where was the common sense?!!!!

Cade now says: "Now I'm kind of scared to ride my dirt bike."

A Virginia mom got a criminal record for letting her son walk to a pond, two little girls in Pennsylvania got hauled into court over a broken swing, and now an 11-year-old in Florida gets printed for riding to go fishing.

We are criminalizing childhood in this country.

Lindsey Isaacs, a 23-year-old from Palm Coast, Florida, testified about being thrown into solitary confinement for more than three days after a Flock license-plate camera wrongly tied her Dodge Durango to a deadly I-4 crash.

Jail staff told her she had to stay isolated because of how serious the charges were. The cell door stayed locked for about 86 hours.

She said she was terrified she would spend the rest of her life in prison for a wreck she knew she hadn’t caused.

At her lowest point she didn’t want to live. She spent nearly two weeks in maximum-security jail before prosecutors dropped the charges.

🚨#BREAKING: Outrage is erupting after a 22-year-old who runs into BURNING BUILDINGS as a volunteer firefighter was told he isn't qualified to be a paid firefighter...

...because he was HOMESCHOOLED.

Then the city changed the job posting to cover it up.

His name is Andrew Coates. He's 22 years old, in Nebraska.

Right now, today, he runs into burning buildings as a volunteer firefighter for Cedar Bluffs Fire. He is a state-licensed EMT.

He is doing the job. For free.

All he wanted was to get PAID to do it. In his words: "Make a career out of it would be the goal. To get paid to do what you love."

So he applied to the Fremont Fire Department.

And in April, the city rejected him. Why?

Because his high school diploma says he was homeschooled.

That's it. That's the whole disqualification.

Not his EMT license.
Not his fitness.
Not his record.
Not his experience pulling people out of fires ALREADY!!

...how he was educated.

The job posting he applied to said "graduation from high school."

That's all it said.
He graduated high school.
He has a diploma.

And AFTER they rejected him, the city went back and added the word "accredited" to the job description.

His own fire chief, the man who has watched Andrew work, showed up to defend him:

"I feel the city of Fremont is really missing out here, and in my mind, because of his homeschooling, you guys are discriminating against him."

Over THIRTY homeschool families showed up to stand behind this kid.

And the Civil Service Commission? They said it isn't their job to touch city policy.

Homeschoolers are literally a generation of kids who read ABOVE grade level, who work with their HANDS, who volunteer in their communities, who show up for their neighbors.

And this young man is the proof.

At 22, he's a certified EMT and a volunteer firefighter, while plenty of his peers are on a couch.

When your house is on fire at 3 a.m., I promise you will not ask the man dragging your children out where he went to high school.

You will not ask if his diploma was accredited.

You will thank GOD he came.

Andrew isn't even fighting for himself anymore. His words:

"I think now it's turned into we want to make sure that every homeschooler has an equal opportunity."

That's a better man than the policy that rejected him.

Fremont, you have a licensed EMT and an active firefighter begging to serve your city. And you turned him down over paperwork, then rewrote the paperwork to cover it.

Fix this.

He asked a teenager to say "excuse me" and the teens parents k*lled him for it.

His name was Bert Atienza. He was 77 years old.

He and his wife Josephine had been married for FORTY-TWO YEARS and on Sunday, June 7th, they went to church.

Then they stopped at the Walmart to do their grocery shopping.

Josephine says a 17-year-old Black female employee came through with a heavy cart and nearly slammed into her.

No "excuse me." No apology. Nothing.

So Bert did what husbands do, he spoke up for his wife.

In his wife's words, he told that girl: "You almost hit my wife with your heavy cart, and you did not even say excuse me or apologize to her."

Josephine says the teenager then THREW A CAN at them as they walked away. It missed.

The elderly couple, not wanting any trouble, just kept shopping.

Minutes later, that girl's PARENTS showed up at the store, found the 77-year-old man and beat him to de*th.

In his wife's words:

"They crowded my husband, one of the adults hit him in the face. He fell down on the floor. I was terrified. I don't know what's going on."

Let’s talk about the US mail. I wrote a thank you note in late June. Yes. An honest-to-God, handwritten thank you note. Put a stamp on it, put it in the mailbox, put up the little red flag. Next day, little red flag is down, mailbox is empty. I live in North Carolina, the addressee is in Washington, DC.

On Aug 27, I received the following text from the person to whom the thank you note was addressed:

“I just got an envelope addressed to me from you, postmarked June 23, but the envelope was opened and nothing was in it. Do you recall what was in it?”

I said “a thank you note to you for….” I asked if she could send a photo of the envelope. Yup. That is the envelope with my return address…. Addressed to my friend. It took 9 weeks plus two days for a simple first class piece of mail to arrive at its destination from NC to the District of Columbia, and it was missing the contents.

Then today, I saw an email chain on the NextDoor app, which I occasionally peruse. What got my attention was that the starting post was from someone who lives nearby who had paid some bills by writing checks, putting them into the envelope with stamps, placing the envelopes in his mailbox, and subsequently learning that the mail had been stolen, the checks cleared his bank account the next day from a location a few towns away. Bad stuff. But the response from all the replies was totally unsympathetic. All the replies were that “you cannot possibly put a check in the mailbox and be surprised that it is then stolen or mis-delivered”. With all the accompanying stories of similar bad experiences.

And yet, we are all supposed to suspend our brains when the subject turns to voting by mail. @realDonaldTrump is somehow a dictator for trying to make sure that ballots sent / returned by mail are tracked, that the addresses are accurate, the voters are citizens … and the Democrats and some puke GOP Secretaries of State howl about how trying to secure this absurdly insecure system is a terrible, awful thing.

Couple of thoughts:

We MUST reduce the quantity of voting by mail by reestablishing true “absentee” voting. The only people who should be allowed to vote by mail are those who cannot get to the polls to vote in person. That would significantly increase the possibility that the ballots cast by mail might be authentic and timely. The reduction in volume might help with oversight of the process. I emphasize “might”.

But here’s the real question: If you won the lottery….would you put your winning lottery ticket in an envelope, put a stamp on it and put it in the US mail?

I didn’t think so. Neither would I. And my ballot, my vote, is easily as valuable as a lottery ticket.
