In response to Ian's claims, Cumbria Constabulary has rejected the suggestion that it intended to silence Ellie Reynolds or her family.
The force says it investigated Ellie's allegations and presented the evidence to the Crown Prosecution Service, who concluded there was not a realistic prospect of securing a conviction.
The force says senior officers met Ian on several occasions to discuss the investigation, as well as safeguarding and support.
The constabulary acknowledges that victim support practices may not always have met the desired standard, and says it is committed to protecting children and young people.
It says it has strengthened its response through various initiatives and continues to learn from feedback.
