Speech and Language Therapist working with paeds/adults | UCL MSci PALS and MSc SLS grad | Interests: learning disability, autism, motor speech + advocacy 📚💬
@CRAE_IOE 100%! As a speech therapist who works with lots of autistic clients, facilitating personal acceptance + identity is a central facet of the support I provide. I was writing goals relating to it today. Glad to have more research demonstrating the importance for psychological health
I’ve written some brief reflections on my first 6 weeks working as an employed speech therapist if anyone is interested in my ramblings! https://t.co/glXrBLjDit
@UCLBrainScience@BCAphasia I recall lectures with Dr Mukadam during my MSci PALS studies and learning about cultural bias in dementia assessments… about 4 years later and I am now applying + reflecting on the knowledge in my clinical practice as an SLT. Very much grateful for the inspiration + knowledge
I’ve been living insomnia free for almost six months now. Didn’t get much sleep last night and woke up with what were the usual headaches. How on earth did I get my speech therapy MSc living like this day in and out? Moving forward I’m never taking sleep for granted 😅
@emilyjayne_slt Thank you! I’m especially excited to support clients with advocacy skills, empowerment etc which I feel is a bit more relevant to secondary school settings :)
I am incredibly happy to share that I have accepted an SLT position with Magic Words Therapy where I will be working across mainstream secondary schools, complex needs ARP and within the N. London clinic . Words can’t describe how over the moon I feel right now!!! #slt2benomore
Also excited that I will be working with a mix paeds-adult caseload in clinic. Couldn’t think of a better way to begin my SLT career with a diverse range of client populations
and with my dissertation complete I just have completed my MSc (in my living room on a random Friday afternoon). Here’s to becoming a speech and language therapist! #slt2be
I only have my discussion left to write and then I will have the first draft of my MSc dissertation complete. It only feels like yesterday when I walked into our first MSc lecture 🥹 #slt2be
After illness in the past year, I had to defer two chunky coursework assignments to the summer. Finally have both complete 😭 Now just the dissertation > graduation #slt2be
Feeling very confused about what my first SLT post should be. Optimal is community ALD but most jobs seem to require driving as an essential… Wishing there were more joint paediatric-adult jobs out there too
