Just a clip of Lord Bradley mentioning the need for Speech and Language Therapy in Liaison and Diversion in the Queen's speech! @RCSLTpolicy@rcslt @KGadhok

@JenMurphySLT @JacquiLearoyd I definitely find it equally as useful to know others' styles, it can help me rationalise some of my own traits/reactions 🙈
@GeorgiaSLT @laurabraithslt No I think you're right. I re-shared as was reflecting on my 'style' and that I'm very aware the current challenges are really shining a spotlight on my weak spots!
#mySLTday pleased to get request from police directly for SLT assessment for someone currently under investigation. They valued a previous report received for someone else & got in touch. Usually its L&D practitioner that recognises need/refers on. Slow but significant progress
@autism_by@KarenScorerOT Some more generic guidance on autism often, for example understanding engagement style such as someone who may seem evasive or uncooperative when they need a more direct style of communication. Hard to explain my job on twitter!!
@autism_by@KarenScorerOT There's only one of me covering entire force area so not always possible to see in custody. It's not related to fitness to plead as that lies with psychiatry. This is more about how q's may need to be adapted, vocabulary levels, reducing demands on expressive lang etc.
@autism_by@KarenScorerOT sometimes it's pre interview, other times it's after release and RUI. Typically the nurses complete their mental health assessment and screen for language and communication needs then refer onto me if needed
@autism_by@KarenScorerOT I don't directly support as an AA or intermediary would but I write reports that provide detail on DPs level of understanding/expressive skills and make recommendations.
@EllaPeaSpeechie Trusts I have worked for use values based interviewing. Research the trust's core values/mission statement and think about how you can contribute to delivery of these. It's good to have examples from your own experience that demonstrate your own values not just skill/knowledge

A HUGE thx to those who showed me kindness & patience - without you, this paper would still be a half-baked draft on a USB🙏🙏🙏
