Join us Mon 2/26 @ 12pm in the WATER Institute (ISE 108) for our first brown bag research presentation of 2024! Dr. @TeresaBarazaP will present "Geologic, hydrologic, and land use controls on microplastic contamination in karst springs." Bring your lunch and inquiring minds!
Physics students from SLPS's Collegiate School of Medicine and Bioscience spent time in our Aviation Science, @SLU_WATER Institute, and Physics labs on Monday learning about ways their physics lessons have numerous applications in these areas!
@JasonKnouft, faculty researcher with @slu_water, @SLUBiology, @NGRREC and @SLUResearch, shares his expertise on how climate change is impacting the Mississippi River in a @guardian article about drinking water challenges in Louisiana: https://t.co/GwxYApJu1o
On 9/29, the WATER Institute participated in @NGRREC's 2023 Water Festival which hosted over 900 fifth graders from across the region! We loved teaching students about #microplastics in #water sources, and Dewey had a great time making new friends!
Great story on @SLU_Official research!
Elizabeth Hasenmueller, associate prof of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences and associate dir of @slu_water, and students found microplastic pollution in a cave system that hasn't had human visitors for 30 years!

@slu_water Associate Director Liz Hasenmueller, Ph.D., is leading research on the presence of microplastics in water resources, including cave systems. Thanks, @stlpublicradio, for highlighting @SLUResearch in water!
Researchers at @slu_water wanted to see if microplastics can still be found in a cave system without human presence.
The answer is yes. The team discovered microplastics in large numbers in both water and sediment in the Cliff Cave in St. Louis County. https://t.co/7LuU2OJrAL
@JasonKnouft, Ph.D., a Primary Investigator with the WATER Institute, and Susan Armstrong, P.E., a member of the Missouri Safe Drinking Water Commission, shared their thoughts on St. Louis drinking water infrastructure on last night's @ksdknews broadcast: https://t.co/3Kg0vqEq1h
WATER Institute Primary Investigator, @JasonKnouft, Ph.D., and Director of Business and Outreach, Rachel Rimmerman, were quoted in this @CNN story about drinking water infrastructure and climate change in St. Louis! Read the full story:
Welcome (back), new and returning @SLU_Official students! We can't wait to dive into the new academic year with you! Our @slu_water director Dr. Cox is starting the #Fall2023 semester with a splash in her @SLU_Civil#hydraulics modeling course in @SLU_SSE π
This week, we got to host two @SLU_SSE summer camp groups of high school students from #STL and across the country to explore #water#research in the lab and in the field! We had so much fun and hope to see everyone back at @SLU_Official soon! #STEM#SummerAtSLU
After a flood washed away our auto-sampling instrument, a multiparameter sonde used to analyze #water quality, we thought it was lost forever. Yesterday the #research team found it after weeks of searching! And it was collecting data the whole time! What a way to end the week!β¨
Are #microplastics in our drinking water? Check out this lead story from @ksdknews featuring WATER Institute primary investigator @JasonKnouft and a study implemented by @MOWaterkeeper to learn more:
Thank you @iSCORE25 for giving us the opportunity to teach about water and micro plastics during the Saturday Stem camp! Also big thanks to @CarlyFinegan and @natfhernandez for teaching the students!
Thank you to all the sponsors, presenters, speakers, partners, attendees and volunteers who made the 2023 SLU Summit for Water: Water Research to Build Community Resilience a success! More photos to come!
A big thanks to everyone that came out for the @OpenSpaceSTL Trash Bash on April 8th! We appreciate everyone's hard work in cleaning up the watershed. #passport2cleanwater
