Elizabeth Heyrick saw a faster way.

She wrote a pamphlet. "Immediate Not Gradual Abolition." She organised a sugar boycott across Leicester. Then across the Midlands. Then across Britain.

Within nine years, the 1833 Slavery Abolition Act freed 800,000 people across the British Empire in a single Act.

She didn't live to see it. She died in 1831, two years before the Act passed.

Frederick Douglass said she had the head of a prophetess and the heart of an angel.

Almost nobody in Britain has heard her name.
