Yesterday I had one of the greatest privileges - presenting my Babies Bill to the House
The evidence is clear just how vital a baby’s first 1001 critical days from pregnancy to age two are
I hope that on the 4th September, the whole House can unite around such a crucial cause
Dr Calum MacKellar of @scotbioethics visits SPUC TV for an interview with William Currie and offers many fascinating insights!

Statement from @RCPhysicians : The Bill would need substantive change.
- equitable access to high-quality end of life care for all patients
- robust safeguards to protect vulnerable individuals, including against coercion
- clear provisions allowing doctors to opt out of participation
- decisions informed by clinicians with appropriate expertise, including those who know the patient
- proper recognition of prognostic uncertainty in end of life care
- strong regulation and oversight of any assisted dying services and medicines.

What would YOU say?
Friend in pain: “I can’t take this suffering anymore. I’m thinking about assisted suicide… it feels like the only way.”
You: ?
Every life has value from beginning to natural end. True compassion means offering care and support, not helping someone end their life.

Utterly fed up with this lie, promoted by campaigners since the start. In 2024 a lot of MPs were brand new but they've seen dozens and dozens of bills since then. There is no excuse for this utter misleading tosh, and it takes other MPs for fools.
This is really important. The sponsor of the Bill is, with winks and nudges, suggesting it might not hit the statute book if the Lords refuse. But this isn't in Lauren Edwards' gift. The Parliament Acts mean that if the Commons pass the (flawed) Bill, it will become law.
Strange times when I find myself agreeing with the former head of @BPAS1968…
@AnnFuredi sees what too many MPs seem determined to ignore: the assisted suicide bill is a dangerous answer to suffering.
❓What Can We Do?

Every message counts, so don't forget to share this post with everyone who believes that every life is worth protecting. /5
❓ Why Should We Be Worried?
- It will put pressure on sick, elderly or disabled people to feel like a “burden” on family or the NHS.
- Safeguards have proven weak in every country that’s tried this. It is a fact that the rules get expanded in time.
- We should be investing in better palliative care and hospices, not offering assisted suicide as a cheaper option.
- The House of Lords found serious flaws last time. Now they’re trying to push the exact same bill through again.
This isn’t compassion.
The crucial vote is the Second Reading on 11 September. /4

Where does Andy Burnham stand on assisted dying? It’s not at all clear that should Burnham win in Makerfield (& then become PM) he would support the bill, nor welcome the division it would bring, while trying to unite a fractured Labour Party. https://t.co/eP0ZDkHBe5
Callum Anderson also voted for the Assisted Dying Bill.
The Parliament Act Plan - an unsafe Bill, no MP changes permitted, forced into law - is too blunt, and requires MPs to ignore their constituents' and experts' deep concerns. Follows Sir Alan Campbell's comments.
