Florian Wirtz isn’t playing well, and the sample size is large enough to be concerned about it. I’m not sure why that take would be seen as controversial in any way.

I also think the talk that everything has to be better around him in order for him to play well is strange; I’ve seen players in Red shirts have way worse players around them and still do better (Owen, Gerrard, Suarez etc).

We’re playing a system with a number ten and the number ten isn’t doing well.

However, the flip side is that we’re very early in the Iraola era and things might take time to click, but I think it’s fair to have big doubts over Wirtz’s suitability to us/the PL.

I say all that too as someone who was unbelievably excited when he signed him, I tipped him to be the Player of the Season when he arrived!

@paulinebarbara3 @Kemlynroad1970 When he’s played well, I’ve said he played well. His best games have come in the CL, but he’s been underwhelming in the PL, for me. Not everyone will agree, that’s cool.

@AEP220676 I think he has the engine and work rate to succeed, he just needs to quicken up and sharpen up a bit on the ball, looks a bit too slow/casual too often.

Three PL clean sheets in a row isn’t to be sniffed at either. For large parts of last season, and the start of this one, it was WAY too easy to score goals against Liverpool. Glad that might be changing. Ipswich and Fulham hardly created a chance, and Bournemouth yesterday made one.
