With a 500% increase in incarceration over the last 40 years, today, we're calling out the hypocrisy of a country celebrating freedom while also leading the world in incarcerating its own people.
171 years later, #FrederickDouglass' ferocious #IndependenceDay address still rings true. What freedom can we celebrate when our community is behind bars? Nearly 30,000 immigrants are in detention across the country. More than 425,000 people are jailed pretrial in local jails.

New report, old horrors! A groundbreaking study discloses that a shocking 122,000 people are subjected to solitary confinement in the US, surpassing previous estimates of 80,000. This includes individuals confined in prisons and jails, enduring 22+ hours of isolation daily.

This is in fact a cage. A cage that we put incarcerated people in. A cage we put them in for many reasons but it should be known we put them in this cage when they are getting therapy. When they are talking about trauma… so yes, we put people in cages & that will never be ok…

Today I visited my husband in prison for the last time, the next time will be to collect him. The prison officers said to my son I hope I never see you again but in a good way. We got through it, onwards and upwards.
