‘Friends, Lovers, Ex-lovers: Whatever’
(stringband version) is out now!!

it was 13 years ago today, that Nicholas Woodley and me wrote ‘Friends, Lovers, Ex-lovers: Whatever’, sitting in our room at 66 Line St. in Charleston. some of y’all have heard me tell the story, but it’s based on a valentine’s day card that i wrote to my ex, who lived downstairs in Apt A. i asked Woodley if i should give it to her, and he said he didn’t give “2 shits” either way, as long as we could turn it into a song, so we did.

this tune has been a staple of the SUSTO catalogue since the very beginning, and it’s a big reason why we’re a band in the first place. i’m glad to have found the opportunity to bring it to life yet again, with a newly recorded ‘Susto Stringband’ version, featuring a group of incredible musicians and friends, who have added a whole new dimension to one of my favorites.

this track is the first single from a full record, made in collaboration with Holler Choir last summer in North Carolina. The record is called ‘Susto Stringband: Volume 1’ and it comes out March 28th, courtesy of our friends at New West Records 🎻🪕

we’ll be on the road as ‘Susto Stringband’ quite a bit this year, and you can check out this live video of us doing ‘Friends, Lovers…’ at Thirsty Beaver Saloon a couple months back, for a little taste of SSB in action!
