Today is #NationalButtonBatteryAwarenessDay. A single button battery can cause life-altering injuries if ingested. Keep all spare button batteries out of children’s reach. When it’s time to replace the battery, wrap the used one in tape before disposing. If it’s a lithium button battery, you can responsibly dispose of it by dropping it off at one of the #SWA’s seven Home Chemical & Recycling Centers in #PalmBeachCounty or retailer drop-off location near you.

The #SWA was pleased to welcome The School District of Palm Beach County Board Member Erica Whitfield for a presentation and tour of our facilities, including Renewable Energy Facility 2. During her visit, Ms. Whitfield took time to learn more about our operations, including how we manage the county’s waste, convert waste to renewable energy and maintain our position as a leader in Florida for recycling, while continuing to advance solutions that serve the needs of our growing community. We appreciate her interest in gaining a deeper understanding of the SWA’s work and her commitment to staying engaged with the issues and challenges facing #PalmBeachCounty. We value opportunities like this to connect with community leaders who are invested in learning about the systems and services that support our county’s quality of life.

June 1 is #WorldReefAwarenessDay, a reminder that what we throw AWAY doesn’t go “away.” For #PalmBeachCounty, protecting our reefs starts with responsible waste management.
The #SWA works year-round to reduce litter, prevent pollution and keep harmful materials out of our waterways. When trash and chemicals are not disposed of responsibly, they can travel through storm drains and canals to the ocean, threatening coral reefs and marine life.
Residents can make a difference by #recycling right, reducing single-use plastics and using proper disposal programs for household hazardous waste.
