As we mark the end of the blessed month of Ramadan, my warmest wishes to everyone celebrating, #EidMubarak عيد مبارك.
Eid al-Fitr is an occasion for celebrating the completion of Ramadan. We welcome the days of Eid, a time of gratitude, reflection and togetherness shared by millions across the world. It is a moment to pause, to give thanks for the strength to fast, to pray and to reconnect with what truly matters.
Yet this Eid, like many before it, is marked by the weight of another unjust war and the suffering of so many. As we gather with family and friends, our thoughts and prayers remain with all those facing hardship, loss and uncertainty, regardless of faith or ethnicity. Their pain is not distant from us, it is part of our shared humanity.
And on this day of Eid al-Fitr, we are reminded not only to celebrate, but to remember. To remember those no longer with us, whose absence is felt more deeply on days like this. To remember those who cannot celebrate in peace. And to remember our responsibility to one another.
Eid is not only about joy, it is about compassion, generosity and standing with those in need.
Please hold on to hope. However heavy things may feel, change does come. The night may feel long and dark, but dawn always follows.
“Indeed, with hardship comes ease.”
Wishing you and your loved ones a peaceful, blessed and meaningful Eid al-Fitr 🌙.

Ramadan Mubarak 🌙
As Ramadan begins, millions of Muslims across the UK and around the world enter a month of reflection, discipline and renewal. Here in Britain, where the Muslim population is now over 4 million, Ramadan is observed quietly and faithfully across every part of society, from our NHS and schools to our Armed Forces, courts, charities and boardrooms.
For those less familiar, Ramadan marks the month in which the Qur’an was first revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). It is regarded as the holiest month in the Islamic calendar. Fasting from dawn to sunset is one of the Five Pillars of Islam, but it is not simply about abstaining from food and drink.
The fast is about self-mastery. It is about gratitude. It is about stepping back from noise and distraction to refocus on faith, character and purpose. Even during the shorter winter days in the UK, fasting without food or water creates a deliberate pause in the rhythm of daily life. That pause sharpens perspective. It builds resilience. It deepens empathy for those who experience hardship not by choice, but by circumstance.
Ramadan is also a month of extraordinary generosity.
Charitable giving is a core obligation in Islam, but during Ramadan it takes on even greater significance. British Muslims give hundreds of millions of pounds to charity each year, with well over £100 million donated during this month alone. Across the UK, Mosques and community groups organise foodbanks, host open iftars, fundraise for hospitals and hospices, support the homeless, assist refugees and respond to global humanitarian crises. Many acts of giving happen quietly, without recognition.
In Islam, charity is not an optional extra. It is a responsibility. Faith must translate into service.
For colleagues and friends who are observing, Ramadan can mean early pre-dawn meals, late evening prayers and full working days while fasting. A little understanding and encouragement goes a long way.
At its heart, Ramadan is about becoming better human beings. More patient. More disciplined. More generous. More aware of our duty to God and to society.
Wishing everyone observing a peaceful, purposeful and blessed month. Ramadan Mubarak.
