The frustration with software is (nearly) over

I’m sure I’m not the only one who, over the years, found myself repeatedly telling myself “if only this app could do this” or “I would have done this interface so much better”…

… or, worse still, “none of these apps do exactly what I want”

Well, that era is nearly over.

I just wrote an app that allows me to easily log food I eat in plain English, fetch health data from my smart watch, and show me the metrics I need, exactly as I need them

I just wrote an app that helps me plan my sprint training, across all time scales, logs my actual sessions, and helps me make changes on the fly

I just wrote an app that mimics my daughter’s school transport app but with proper tracking and intuitive UI

I just wrote an app…

You get the idea.

What a scary but exciting brave new world we’re in (not sure yet whether it’s Shakespeare’s or Huxley’s version of a brave new world, though. Let’s hope it’s the former)

• Where will we end up?
• My expertise is now useless
• My livelihood is gone

Peaks:
• I can do so much more now
• All the projects I never had time for are now done
• I can work in areas I’m not fully fluent in
• I can manage my week so much better with agents doing stuff for me
• The possibilities are endless

We’re all managers now…

Managerial skills are a must-have for everyone now. Our job is to manage AI agents, and that is not that different to managing a team of people.

- Communicate what you want to achieve and any other requirements for the project as clearly as possible

- Give constructive feedback on intermediate results

- Decide when a project is completed satisfactorily

- Use results to generate new ideas (with the help of your team of agents)

As you get to know your “team” better, and they get to know you better, things work more smoothly as you know exactly what to say and when, and they can be more proactive at getting stuff done.

Not that different from managing a team of people, no?
