👋 We’ve also joined #Substack!
We’re not entirely sure what we’re doing yet — but we know we want to use it to share longer reflections and insight on what’s happening across the #DomesticAbuse sector and beyond.

We’re stepping back from X.
At SafeLives, our mission is to end #DomesticAbuse for everyone, for good. We stand with survivors, frontline professionals, and communities fighting for a world free from violence and control.
X is no longer a safe or ethical space. The rise in misogyny, racism, toxic views, and extremist rhetoric on this platform goes against everything we stand for. Survivors of abuse deserve better. Women and girls deserve better.
Violence against women and girls is at epidemic levels in the UK. It is fuelled by attitudes that dehumanise, silence, and harm.
Free speech is vital, but we believe this platform increasingly allows unmoderated, harmful, and often explicit content to spread, with no clear way to report or block it effectively. That is not a safe space for survivors. We cannot continue to actively use a platform that enables these harms to thrive.
From today, we will no longer be posting or moderating this account. You can still find us on our other social channels or contact us via our website at https://t.co/iPRFNVegie—where we will continue championing survivor voices, advocating for change, and pushing for urgent action to break the cycle of abuse for good.

📢 #ItsNotOkay… that young people experience the highest rates of domestic and sexual abuse of any age group.
✨ That’s why our Changemakers are so crucial to our work to ensure all victims and survivors are heard.
✨ A group of dedicated young people who share a passion to end domestic abuse, the Changemakers give a voice to those who are often overlooked, ignored or silenced.
✨ Here, one Changemaker uses their voice to explain why Young Persons Violence Advocates (Ypvas) and Independent Sexual Violence Advisers (Isvas) are so important in ensuring young people are heard; listening to them, believing them, supporting them.

Domestic abuse does not affect all communities in the same way.
Barriers such as systemic racism, cultural stigma, and a lack of specialist services mean that people can face additional challenges when seeking support.
Fear of discrimination, mistrust in services, and language barriers can all prevent people from accessing help. Without addressing these inequalities, domestic abuse services risk leaving people without the support they need.
At The For Baby’s Sake Trust, we believe that a trauma-informed, whole-family approach must also be culturally competent. True equality means ensuring that everyone can access safe, understanding, and effective support.
This Race Equality Week, we are reflecting on how we can continue to break down barriers and ensure that domestic abuse support is inclusive for all.
What do you think needs to change to make domestic abuse support truly accessible for all communities? Comment below.

137,00 women and girls have reported experiencing FGM in the UK 📢
People at risk of ‘honour’-based abuse and forced marriage experience domestic abuse for longer, on average, than those not at risk. They are also more likely to experience harm from multiple perpetrators.
This International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation, check out @SaveraUK and the amazing work they are doing to end ‘honour’-based abuse and all harmful practices, through direct interventions and safeguarding, advocacy, education, engagement, awareness-raising and campaigning for policy, attitude and behaviour change.
