SAJA hosted a lovely Iftar on Thursday in conjunction with the @MedillSchool of Journalism at Northwestern University. Thank you to Dean Charles Whitaker who sponsored four students to attend our dinner.
"The Iftar captured the spirit with which SAJA has operated for three decades: open, inclusive, welcoming — traits that are desperately missing in our national conversation, and even in some newsrooms. It also showcased what makes SAJA special: the ability to work across generations," @sree Sreenivasan, co-founder and former president of SAJA said.
In attendance was @rummanahussain, a fantastic columnist at The Chicago-Sun Times, as well as Al Jazeera journalist @natashaghoneim, who was on the board of The Arab and Middle Eastern Journalists Association (@AMEJA) for years. And of course, there were also a lot of great new young journalists!
Thanks to our new board member @safiasameeali for helping to organize the event in Chicago, an amazing city with a history of excellent journalism! The event was held at Bereket Turkish, a halal restaurant in downtown Chicago.
