@JWenner_Author Yes. The business of writing is most often an after thought for writers. That’s because, for most of us, writing is primarily a creative endeavor. If we looked primarily at the business side, or if we let that motivate our writing, the vast majority would. It write.
This is a worthy conversation. Lots of research over the years has investigated this question and it all comes out mixed. If we can tie city governance and public services to efficiency, we might get somewhere.
The research, however, shows little consensus over “optimal” city size or scale. We might get somewhere on minimum city size, but city service efficiencies vary widely.
For example, fire services tend to due well in regional governing contexts contexts, as do parks and recreational services. Law enforcement does not.
I think it’s less about city size and more about specific service level and scale.
This column @TDOnline Pretty much sums up where I am on college football right now.
I don't know what the answer is, but NIL and the transfer portal are making D-1 football programs less sustainable in higher education.

Excellent article on the unheralded role volunteer fire departments and firefighters play in our communities.
I grew up and lived most of my life in a town with a volunteer fire department, and it provided important glue to our community.

@Vvajk@CoffeeHouseLit The algorithms are built to incentivize and encourage engagement. So when engagement falls off, the exposure of your posts, also change changes.
As luck would have it, a tree fell on the power lines at the Marzuq temple. For Tallahassee people: we have moved to the IHOP down the street into a private room.

Among other things I will discuss this Thursday @TalWriters will be how a budget helps discipline our creative, author minds for the practical realities running our book writing enterprise.
We don’t talk enough about these parts of publishing and marketing our books, but every author has to do it, even the wildly successful ones,
