@JustinSadur OK. I'm not gonna spaff my time up the wall trying to convince you that other people exist and that their safety matters.

[Sam Whyte @samwhyte]

Sorry to be tediously factual, but limiting the number of painkillers you can buy at one timeis an effective harm reduction strategy.

Most overdoses are impulsive. Often people are intoxicated and disinhibited. If you have fewer pills in your home you are less likely to die.

scare a european

[Sam Whyte @samwhyte]

@jessthemess1022 There's often not really a genuine will. That's the problem. It's the impulsive, parasuicidal gestures at a moment of despair.

[Sam Whyte @samwhyte]

@23skiddsy I certainly never suggested it wasn't a trade off. Nor that accessibility is a lesser issue. Simply that tylenol is a dangerous drug and reducing the quantity in the average home does save lives.

[Sam Whyte @samwhyte]

@HFiremoon @jacobscheier No, it was the pack sizes and blister packing them. To be honest, you're very unlikely to be harmed by a triple dose of tylenol. But a bottle containing hundreds is a different matter.

[Sam Whyte @samwhyte]

@Timfamous2pt0 @saturnxoi It's pretty hard to kill yourself with a knife. It's terrifyingly easy to accidentally kill yourself with tylenol.

I'm not arguing about this. It's all backed up by peer-reviewed studies. Half of all cases of liver failure in the US are from tylenol poisoning.

[Sam Whyte @samwhyte]

I cannot emphasise enough what a hideous death people suffer from paracetamol poisoning. Without swift treatment you can't be saved. You don't just drift off to sleep. You slowly die over about a week in terrible pain and vomiting blood.

We must not fuck about with paracetamol.

[Sam Whyte @samwhyte]

Deaths from paracetamol poisoning dropped by 43% when restrictions on the number you could buy was imposed.

Most impulsive ODs aren't a premeditated and considered attempt to die, they are a scream of despair. But paracetamol will kill you either way.

[Sam Whyte @samwhyte]

@lee_lei_lp I used the term "painkillers" because there is also no limit on the number of tylenol/paracetamol you can be sold - bottled not blister packed, which is riskier.

I don't feel remotely attacked, I just don't think this well established fact is particularly well known.

[Sam Whyte @samwhyte]

@PuppyOfMusic I'm very glad you're still with us.

[Sam Whyte @samwhyte]

@clevercorvidae_ Read the very short thread to see what painkiller I am referring to. It would've taken you so much less time than googling this.

[Sam Whyte @samwhyte]

@brass_monk3y I said painkillers. The point is that tylenol/paracetamol is also available in comparable quantities and bottled not blister packed, which is much riskier.

Can you not read a 3 post thread before QTing?

[Sam Whyte @samwhyte]

@Isanthropia Seriously, man. This is so easy to google.

It's pretty hard to kill yourself with ibuprofen, for sure. That's why I used the term "painkillers" - tylenol is available in comparable quantities and in the riskier vessel of bottles not blister packs.

[Sam Whyte @samwhyte]

@Isanthropia Limiting the number of paracetamol/tylenol you can buy in the UK and selling blister packs not bottles reduced deaths by paracetamol poisoning by 43%.

Half of all cases of liver failure in the US are from paracetamol poisoning and 20% of liver transplants.

[Sam Whyte @samwhyte]

@Roger_Organ They don't put benzos on repeat. They're very cautiously prescribed and never long term. That's the issue really. Thanks tho.

[Sam Whyte @samwhyte]

Long shot, but I'm kinda desperate. I always keep back a few benzos in case I find myself in desperate need. Somehow I seem to have misplaced them. Does anyone in the Manchester area have 3 or 4 benzos they can spare? I'm so, so anxious w/o my emergency supply.

[Sam Whyte @samwhyte]

@the05000 I really hope someone's able to lend me a few. But we shall see.

[Sam Whyte @samwhyte]

@the05000 It'll maybe take a week to see my named doctor who'll definitely prescribe them. Its a bit of a lottery with whoever is on emergency appt duty on Monday. Some docs simply don't prescribe them. And I've got a helluva 26hrs to get through before then.

[Sam Whyte @samwhyte]

@the05000 They specifically say they won't do ot gor controlled drugs, unfortunately
