“Sign the contract, or you're staying here.”
At 18, Mykola was forced to choose between joining the russian army and risking everything to escape.
He chose freedom.
Watch Mykola tell his story — and share it so more people understand what young Ukrainians face under occupation.
"I gave him the right books. He stopped being a Ukrainian schoolboy and became a russian soldier."
Russia has long since stopped hiding its true intentions. The public statements by Kyiv-born collaborator Selivanov clearly confirm that the goal of their so-called "denazification" is total re-russification and the erasure of Ukrainian identity. As Selivanov openly admits, children are nothing more than a resource to them: "Those who remain are that pliable material, our genetic material, that we will work with."
In the occupied territories, the enemy operates by a strict playbook. Children are forced to read the "right books" featuring rewritten history, where Ukraine and NATO are portrayed not merely as enemies, but as the actual aggressors. Children are stripped of their language, blackmailed, trained to handle weapons from a young age, and brainwashed into believing that Ukraine does not need them.
The consequences of this policy are catastrophic. There are already several confirmed cases where young Ukrainians, who found themselves under occupation as children, are now fighting in the russian army. Some of them are already instructors, teaching our own children how to fight against us. Their minds were broken over the years to turn them into a military resource for russia.
If we do not rescue them now, the number of such cases will grow exponentially, because, as Selivanov says: "Wherever russian troops arrive, Ukrainianness ceases to exist."
Please share this post to help expose russia's policies toward Ukrainian children under occupation. And if you are able, support Save Ukraine's rescue missions so we can reach more children and families and bring them home safely.

39 children and teenagers were rescued from occupation by the Save Ukraine team last week. This was made possible thanks to the support of our partners as part of the Bring Kids Back UA initiative of the President of Ukraine. Each of them endured pressure, intimidation, and attempts at re-education, but today, all of that is finally behind them.
Among those rescued:
🔹 14-year-old Serhii, who was threatened by masked soldiers that he would be taken away from his family if he refused to attend an occupation-run school. There, the boy was forced every day to study the enemy’s version of history and sing the russian national anthem, while even a single word about Ukraine could be placed under the supervision of social services.
🔹 21-year-old Viktor, whose home was regularly raided and searched by armed soldiers who accused him of espionage. The young man was forced to obtain a russian passport, and along with it, he was given an order to undergo a medical examination for service in the russian army.
🔹 21-year-old Mykola, who faced total militarization while studying at university. Students were forced to attend meetings with russian soldiers and were taught how to operate drones, while his classmates openly threatened to report him to the authorities. As soon as the young man graduated from university, he received a military summons.
For these and 36 other children and teenagers, occupation is now in the past. Today, they are undergoing rehabilitation at the Hope and Healing Centers, receiving comprehensive psychological support, assistance with documents, and comfortable housing so they can start their lives anew.
Unfortunately, thousands of children still remain under occupation, where the enemy is trying to erase their identity and turn them into weapons. That is why we continue to fight for every single one of them.
🙏🏻 We thank our partners @klitschko, Tatjana Kiel, WeAreAllUkrainians, The Humanity Funds, and the Joint Center for Coordination of Search and Release — together, we are bringing Ukrainian children home.
Thanks to Save Ukraine, more than 1,500 children are already home.

Russia continues to invent legal traps in order to keep kidnapped Ukrainian children forever. Just recently, Putin signed Federal Constitutional Law No. 4-FKZ, which has catastrophic consequences for the search and rescue of Ukrainian children. Under this law, all adoption documents issued by occupation authorities are now valid indefinitely.
Prior to this, such decisions had a transitional status until the spring of 2026, after which cases were supposed to be reviewed. Now, Russian authorities are officially permitted to conduct no reviews whatsoever. They have been given the green light to avoid searching for biological parents, ignore the fact that families were forcibly separated during hostilities, and turn a blind eye to the reality that relatives might be searching for these children in Ukraine right now.
The aggressor is massively and permanently legalizing abduction, binding a Ukrainian child to a stranger's family.
I constantly encounter how difficult it is to pull a child out of the Russian system. The occupiers change children's first names, last names, and places of birth, completely erasing their past. With the adoption of this law, challenging adoptions and proving family ties will become times more difficult. They are trying to create the illusion of complete legality in their actions so that the occupation of children's destinies becomes irreversible.
The scale of this tragedy is hard to overstate. Every day, my Save Ukraine team and I try to fight against Russian bureaucracy, but now the enemy has added yet another serious barrier. However, we keep working, searching for children, and finding new opportunities to bring them home.
Please share this post. The more people know about Russia's crimes, the harder it will be for Russia to hide them behind the dry lines of its laws.
Last week, the @SaveUkraineUs team rescued 35 children and teenagers from occupation and Russian territory. This became possible thanks to the support of our partners within the framework of the President of Ukraine's Bring Kids Back UA initiative. Every single one of them endured pressure, intimidation, and attempts at re-education, but today, that is finally behind them.
Among those rescued:
🔹 17-year-old Vlad, who was forced to take a Russian passport and nearly placed on the military registry. The occupiers launched drones straight from the roof of the school where the boy studied, using civilians as human shields, and staged bloody provocations.
🔹 15-year-old Lyubomyr, whose home was completely destroyed by Russian shelling. Armed security forces regularly burst into the boy's home to conduct searches. The most terrifying ordeal for the teenager was witnessing the occupiers shoot a man dead with an assault rifle. Armed security forces regularly burst into the boy's home to conduct searches.
🔹 17-year-old Valeriy, who constantly faced prejudice because of his nationality. At school, the young man was forced to march and write letters of support to Russian soldiers.
For these and 32 other children, the occupation is now in the past. Today, they are undergoing rehabilitation at our Hope and Healing Centers, receiving comprehensive psychological support, assistance with documents, and comfortable housing to start with a clean slate.
Unfortunately, thousands of children still remain under occupation, where the enemy tries to erase their identity and turn them into weapons. Therefore, our fight for every single one of them continues.
